That tiny bit of green ruins the BLK one for you, and the white collars, random green splatterings of a cut-up pair of green speedos, crappy souther cross and pale yellow tone ruin this Asics monstrosity for me and everyone I know.

On balance, I'd say our grievances are more numerous. Which is again another reason to keep it simple. BLK's design was so simple that the only thing you had to complain about was a tiny bit of green in an otherwise all gold jersey. ASICs have piled so much crap into their dogs-breakfast of a design, that they're bound to piss most people off with this 'thing'.

Hi guys. Been reading the forums for years but I have always been to lazy to sign up...

Anyway I really like the new design. I think the shade of gold could be nicer but its miles better than the canary yellow of the kooga/BLK era.

I am also not a huge fan of the classic designs-sure they are npt bad and I have a couple knocking around but it is green and gold-not just gold.

Anyway nice to see a bit of contrast in the colors and I really would rather have our jersey than the saffer one any day.

TahDan, like you said we'll have to agree to disagree.........

But while I would usually agree with the "less is more approach," the jersey could be entirely gold but if there's a tiny green turd drawn on it then it writes off the entire thing..........

The new jersey might have more on it, but IMO it is more visually appealing than the 2013 edition, which based on its unfinished look was obviously designed by the current publisher of the Financial Review......... and is actually more "yellow" than the new one........

As I said before, the new one isn't perfect, it's no classic 1980's Adidas or 1990's CCC design, but it's the best thing we've had in nearly a decade..........

It really seems like a more modern take on the CCC 2005 change to the jersey. Closer to Wattle Gold in colour though. Would have preferred if they went for something like the classic CCC design with the green arm banding instead of the side panels but it's definitely a step in the right direction after what I considered 3 fairly putrid (though lessening each time) designs from CCC, Kooga and Kooga/BLK.

I really don't think it does, but each to their own I suppose. Ultimately I'm just not a fan of excessively busy designs that try to do too much, and this ASICS effort is pretty well the perfect example of that type of excess and incoherence. The way they've gone with the southern cross in particular just really makes it look especially awful... it's the players have run past a bird as it's let go of 4 green turds that have just caught them on the side.

personally I hate the idea of an away jersey or an alternate jersey.

Keep it the same for every test. It's more meaningful.

Can't see us having too many clashes.

Romania only perhaps?

I reckon it's something you do more for the fans. I just like the idea of having a dark green jersey for us to buy. They do it all the time in the NH - particularly England.

It's also partly because I think dark green is a more versatile colour for every day wear than the pale yellows of the new jersey.

Maybe we can go for a black alternative. Worked pretty well for England didn't it?

Yeah, not a fan of how England in particular go about it.. but I reckon it's fair enough for us to have a green away jersey. Every other team has an away jersey but us really, and Green was traditionally the colour of the Wallaby jersey until we decided to let South Africa have it as exclusively there's in the 1960s.

So for me it's also about partly reclaiming something that was traditionally ours:

Currently our jersey does not clash with a major nation.

Seems pointless to create an alternate/clash jersey which will clash with South Africa, whilst possibly also clashing with Scotland and France depending on their current design and potentially the All Blacks. Can't see a jersey that's never worn flying off the shelves.

That's not really accurate... Wales doesn't clash with any major nation either, and neither does England. In reality Ireland and South African don't really clash too, given that their shades of green are as different as Auckland and the Waratahs' shades of blue.

They all still have away jerseys, and most just use them as a way to generate extra apparel revenue (and let's face it, the ARU shouldn't be allergic to extra revenue right now). At least for us it would be a chance to reclaim a bit of history.

If you made apparel on the basis it sells well in the home unions you'd be severely disappointed with the results.

With the design results or the sales results?

As I said though, I'm interested in seeing a return to a green Wallaby jersey because I don't think we should have had to cede that to boks in the first place. Gold can remain the primary jersey, but I don't see why anyone would oppose a dark green away kit. Afterall, dark green is as iconic as it gets in Aussie sport; it's not the "baggy gold" that our young cricketer seek, after all

we could go all the way back to the sky blue jersey we wore in our first test (as we did in the 1999 Centenary Game).

or perhaps the maroon one we wore in our 2nd ever test.

The tradition of wearing blue and maroon respectively was largely a hangover from the colonial era, and was never truly nationally representative. Hence the use of green on tours.

Yep. Well, the first test was in Sydney so they used the NSW jerseys (with mostly NSW players).

the 2nd test was in Brisbane, so more QLD players and the QLD jerseys.

Yep, am aware of all that. Goes directly to my point about the colonial hangover. Precisely the reason I'd never suggest us going back to it.

Dark green isn't really in that category; it's use as the base for national jerseys for Australian sporting teams is still present and contains no colonial state biases.
