Destroying the idea of gold associated with the wallabies would be disastrous from a marketing and merchandising point of view.

Why? There's an all white away jersey for the All Blacks FFS...
It wouldn't be "destroying" it anyway, it would simply be making the base dark green, with a gold collar.

How many aside from the Aussie loig team?

Do you watch cricket? Aussie ODI team has used it consistently over the years. The most iconic of which was the Adidas version in the mid 00s with the genuinely gold trimmings.

Sadly, the current ASICS ODI jersey is again another awful and overly busy mess of a thing.

Do you? The dark green was a recent abomination........

The Australian team has only recently adopted it. Australian gold and don't you fucking forget it, as Bill Lawry/Birmingham has been the most often used colour. In fact from the inception of coloured ODI kit until at least 2007 WC and later gold was still used predominantly.

Actually...

How does that disprove my point? I never said it was the only colour, just that green has consistently been there over the years, and it has - it's the dominant colour in a 3rd of those jerseys, and the last on the list is easily the best design (the all green one with metallic gold).

So the ODI Cricket strip has been predominantly gold 2/3rds of the time.

The Socceroos primarily wear gold.

The Boomers primarily wear gold.

The Wallabies wear gold.

Almost certain the Hockeyroos were gold tops.

The Kangaroos wear green.

Not sure how most Aus rep teams wear predominantly green.

You might be alone with that opinion........

Never said "most" Aussie teams wear green. Just said it was "iconic" as an Aussie colour. As I said, it's not the "baggy gold".

Don't really care what the girls over at soccer wear...

Who are the boomers again?

Hockeroos... meh.

green is purely a marketing colour. That's why its gradually made its way into the cricket gear. As the sport as commercialised so as to their approach to merchandising. They realise they have had to change it up every year to sell more gear and there's only so much you can do with yellow/gold. Also, to get the less diehard fans to wear stuff, they have to make it somewhat fashionable. So, again, less gold.

I'd hate for us to make jersey design decisions based on fashion. I love the visibility the gold jersey gives our fans at any sporting event featuring around the world. It's a sign of real support.

As for a green away jersey, why? It'll conflict with the Springboks, who we face away a fair bit. As well as navy teams - Scotland, Samoa, France - hell even the All Blacks.

I also LOVE that we have the traditional gold jersey whilst the Kangaroos have to put up with a green one.

Nup, we've built a tradition that works. Let's not destroy that tradition to 'honour' one that just doesn't seem relevant anymore.

What can I say, for a man who claims to like simple designs, you have an odd way of showing it with your preference for the overly busy messes that clutter the rest of that list.

It won't conflict with the Springboks any more than Scotland conflicts with France.

In any case, I'm raising this mostly as a novelty thing for fans. Let's not forget that the ARU could use a few extra dollars, and so reintroducing a bit of history would be a nice touch.

I also LOVE that we have the traditional gold jersey whilst the Kangaroos have to put up with a green one.

I hate to say it, but the Kangaroos jersey is more consistent and steeped in tradition than the Wallabies one, and by a massive margin. They may not really have much competition internationally, but their jersey design has been consistent for 85 years.

The Wallabies on the other hand, keep throwing up these overly busy messes every second year. The fact is we haven't stuck to our history since establishing it. The Wallabies jerseys have been as all over the shop as the ODI ones since the classic period of the late 80s.

You are right that the Kangaroos jersey has been more consistent from a design perspective, but you are completely wrong about it being more steeped in tradition than the Wallabies.

Tradition extends far beyond the design of the jersey. The Wallabies jersey and what it represents has a history which the Kangaroos can never hope to match.

I reckon that's a tough argument to make mate... you're going to have to qualify that.

TahDan should start up a conversation with the guy trying to get the Western Force into gold jerseys.

The one man crusade to change something the majority want left the same...

Actually, I completely agree with that. Never did get why the team went for blue... supposedly they didn't want to clash with the 'Canes, but then decided on blue - a colour that is literally worn by half the teams in the tournament in some way.
