Maybe they just improved as the season went on and they are now the better player, pretty simple really - no one is entitled to picked no matter how many hoops they jump through.

Quite possibly and of course your'e right, but the avenue for those boys who improved was probably to trial again for next years JGC program and the boys who participated in the actual program this year be given a shot (reward) of participating at the next level as per the reds own selection/invitation criteria...yes agree no one is entitled to a selection is precisely my point

I agree, people miss the point of selection criteria
It's the same at Qld state champs, you have to nominate and play to get in city or country teams, it's not some free for all.
They set rules they need it abide by them.

Anyway pretty sure the 6 I mentioned above did not come through the pathways on your peice of paper which is the whole point of discussion RE selection criteria, any thanks for clearing that up, great to see that R.League is not a pathway to "RED" at least on that peice of paper anyway

Do we support the under 17's teams in NSW being limited from 10 to 6? Was just wondering what other people thought of this.

I like to think that the pathway is dairy based.

Cream will rise to the top. Always has done, always will.

We are getting better at identifying cream in its' raw form but .... ... ... ... Some naturally talented athletes, who have had all development showered upon them, can and do get passed by less naturally prodigiously talented kids who haven't had all the "pathway development" opportunities. Application and attitude become rather important in Colts and Grade Footy.

The previous Schoolboy and Junior rep rugby scrapbook is of limited importance in Colts and of zero relevance in Grade. The Player is either in form and applying themselves or they are not. If the former, they get selected for Grade 1, if the latter they will be in Thirds or lower. Simple.

How some players deal with the "rejection" of not making State reps, Colts 1, First XV, First Grade, NRC or whatever they have set their mind on will often establish the genuine character of the fellow. If they give up, then they will never make it. If they put the rejection/non-selection in the "Past History - Time to move on" Tray, and keep on trying to make their next level next time around, then there is still a chance that they can achieve their aspirations.

I for one am NOT encouraging kids to trial for the JGC. Why should we? Although JGC is great in concept it has been shown to be a monumental disappointment and waste of time. Many kids from our zone tried out. Many missed out as the ARU and now NSW allow kids from other codes to trial. If selected they can play JGC and then go back to their chosen code without having to register for a local rugby club. All and sundry can see this is just the hierarchies way of allowing the private school boys to play without having to register with a club. Then there's the $660..... MONEY GRAB!!! 30 kids selected, 23 in a playing squad with many of them getting less than 10 minutes over the whole "special event" series. FYI :- rugby's NOT just played in private schools. It's played by public school kids both at school and with local clubs. SHAME those running the show don't really care about grassroots rugby... Just private school rugby.
There's the difference between us and the mighty All Blacks.... New Zealand rugby is a game for all classes from those on welfare benefits right up to the highest paid person in the country. Sadly that's not the case in Oz.

I read this in the Cricketer's Arms Cardiff as "diary based" - not sure Im completely wrong!

Many kids see kids coming from league, playing JGC then going back to league. They figure what's the point of playing rugby in a four team comp. they can go play league in a 10 or 12 team comp and still play JGC.

Now that the NSW U17s sides have been officially affiliated with various NRC sides would you expect that the jerseys and gear will directly represent their NRC affiliation? Also any word on what brand or who will be producing the NSW sides gear, as last year they were lagging behind pretty obviously (Every other state's sides had BLK, NSW Junior Gold used Ruffie to produce their gear).

Trials are on 14th Nov. U17s are combining 3 Bris teams with Logan and Ipswich to make one team. Appalling decision. My son played 15s first year and 17s as a 16 year old and this has been a great competition. How they expect nurture promising players by doing this is beyond me. Disgusted.
