It's the notion that we can somehow build a Wallabies team out of players like Conor Vest, Ryan Smith and Jock Campbell and it will be better than the one we currently have.

Tupou also needs to stop the habit of receiving the ball stationary every time. it might work in Super Rugby AU where he can use his strength and athleticism to dominate contact but it’s not working at this leve.

And stop trying the miracle offloads. His ball security is terrible. He needs to hold the pill and recycle. Ditto for a few others as well. I see Valetini has adjusted this part of his game. TT, Paisami and Petaia need to do the same.

Identify young talent, offer them some form of contract - but they don't go directly to a Super Rugby squad unless they are absolute freaks (and even then go back to Club Rugby if they are not up to it). Instead they have to go and prove themselves in QPR or Shute Shield level Rugby against men for at least one season, demonstrating that they have the skills and the physical attributes to play regularly in first grade against men (and dominate). Then, and only then, do they get a crack in the Super Rugby squad. This also helps grassroots Rugby.

This is exactly what happens. Players in the Super squads that aren't in the 23 for that weekend's game, go back to club footy. The young blokes who are well back in the depth chart play club rugby every weekend - the club just gets the bonus that they are training part-time or full-time with the Super team.

Why cant we build our own program that has clearly defined opportunities that is attractive for those players who are committed to rugby and all the better things

This is not what happens. Many of the squad outside the 23 are either not released or do not choose to go back and play for their Clubs (at least in QPR). Additionally, some players in the 23 are selected too early before they have proved themselves against men. The paradigm needs to change. The expectation should be that you will play open Club Rugby for at least a season before you will get a run in a Super team, no matter how good you think you are.

I know coaches may hold back some players outside the 23 where there's a concern a player in the 23 might drop out late, but especially for younger players well outside the 23, I think they're playing pretty much every weekend.

He is an inside centre. In Australia we have a habit of making world class 12s play other positions. Gits best example. I believe he could have been a top 5 rugby player ever if we didn't change his position because he was talented enough to play anywhere.
