I think you might want to also look at the number of tackles made by the forwards in comparison in the same match. Some very high numbers in there.

Alexander 16
Moore 21
Palmer 11 (51 mins)
Kimlin 10
Carter 20
Mowen 14
Smiler 4 (51 mins)
Smith 22
Fainga'a 13 (in 12 mins o_O)

So more likely the Brumbies as a whole needed to make more tackles in that game?

It's because it's traditionally been used as an insult by the supporters of other rugby nations, in much the same way as we insult the All Blacks by calling them the New Zealand Rugby Team or the AIGs.

If an All Black player went on TV and called them the AIGs, the country would go into meltdown

Yep. They give women the vote - No Problems. They introduce GST before us - Too Easy. They have a treaty with their Indigineous peoples - It's only fair. Gay Marriage legalised - Whats the fuss. Insult the All Black Tradition - Heresy, Treason, No F%^$king way, You've overstepped the line there Sonny Jim!

What's in a name? A colour by any other name would still look just as yellow?

Kooga actually take their definition of gold from a can of XXXX Gold.

If the colour of the jersey doesn't match the colour of a XXXX Gold can, Queenslanders will start getting confused and think they're colour blind.

Getting really OT here but I couldn't resist. A recent court case in NZ heard that an English (possibly?) person residing in NZ was called an "Australian idiot" by a Kiwi during an argument. The English person took the Kiwi to court as they believed that the name calling was offensive. In court it was established that only the use of the name 'Australian' was offensive. Apparently calling them an idiot is fine, but don't you dare call them Australian!

I have probably got the details wrong but gist of the news story would be pretty close to the mark!

Actually that happened in England. A Kiwi living in England took her neighbour to court for racial vilification because her neighbour called her Australian. She said that the neighbour did this on purpose as an insult.

So while the the other Aussie teams seem to kick less than the Brumbies, they are also being forced to make a lot of tackles as the opposition run at them?

Which is still entirely speculation. The whole Quade at the Reds vs. Quade in Wallaby camp has been done over a thousand times on here. Only real answer is that nobody really knows, unless someone is best friends with a player and has been holding out.

Going back a little to my other post about transparency from the ARU and Wallabies. If there is truly a rift between Deans and QC (Quade Cooper) or whatever it is that may keep QC (Quade Cooper) out of the Wallabies somewhere-in-between-red-and-green colored jersey then why the fuck was he given the highest contract (reportedly) in Australia after all of that went down?

That was my point; There is no way that Hawker put that contract back on the table without downing a few quiet ones with Deans, McKenzie and Carmichael etc...Form aside, whether QC (Quade Cooper) is going to play the Lions was decided before that Contract was re-tabled. It is not really being worked out now.

As to why the &^%$ would anyone defend him - There was a brief pause between the comments and the nastier elements of the media circus that went on... certainly other Wallabies were approached for comment, and If there had been any truth to what he was saying, I believe players would have spoken-up early-on. Certainly, by the time his contract was withdrawn, the game was lost - and any defense by that stage, would have been futile.

Additionally, QCs comments did not come out of the 'ether' these things never do - there would have been a series of conversations which led up to this statement - For the guilty; look to his Agent, some Journos (who then commenced kicking him) - and some team mates (who then chose to remain silent).

The whole thing reminds me alot of the Matt Rogers saga... Potentially a tremendous Rugby player, but not good in a team when things were not going his way - or when he was not being accorded the deference he (wrongly) believed he deserved. Nice Bloke but Bad Advice.

Godwin's Law of G&GR:

"The longer any forum discussion goes on, the probability of someone blaming Robbie Deans or Quade Cooper approaches 1."

I think I may have coined that one a long time ago with this old post

Gagger-Godwins Law: Not so much a law, more play what's in front of you, and more likely than not it will be one of the following:
1. Our coach is shit, what type of selection policy is that!
2. Why our 7 is immortal and yours just cheats
3. The ref needs to be shot
4. Why this player needs to be in the centres
5. Giteau just crabs
6. Quade is awesome/crap
7. Campo said more shit but still played like a freak but couldn't defend/yes he can
8. Why GAGR is the best site in the world
9. Eye gouging
10. Rugby league is shit

and later:

Honourable mentions go to: Tom carter doesn't know how to pass, The IRB are ruining the game and Channel 9 have f#cked us

edit: I have been here too long.

And yet despite him squandering everything, we came closer to winning, and looked far more like a team that actually had some semblance of a game plan, than at any point under Dingo.

Mate that is just wrong... Jones has the worst win-loss record of any wallabies manager as far as I know - and it would have been FAR worse had there not been such a surplus of talent in the team...

This was the era of Stirling Mortlock turning up at every other post-match interview and saying with a muted grin "well, we tried hard, but fell a bit short today"... near enough was good enough under Jones.

Deans record with the resources at hand in 2012 was a bloody miracle.

Credit where it's due, in that case!

(I've been here even longer, but I can barely remember what I read a week ago, let alone posts from back when debating Tom Carter was still a thing.)

672 mins played 32 tackles 1 missed. 96.9% Not bad in a team getting smashed up eh? he also made 558metres. For comparison Cooper 310m. To'omua 361. Foley 454m.

Scanning my eye over the profiles the most similar player to JOC (James O'Connor) for try assists, offloads, linebreaks, metres is Cruden, but JOC (James O'Connor) has had a higher workrate in runs kicks rucks while Cruden has tackled a fair bit more. Cruden's tackle completion is 83%.

JOC (James O'Connor) might not have the size to stop the Tuilagis, but he is the best of our defensive options except perhaps Archies dad. Add in his kicking (most metres save Steyn, Pieterson, Catrakilis) and his known ability to play extremely well under pressure. A few more games like Quades last week and maybe Deans will think hard. But then JOC (James O'Connor) doesn't play outside the best 9 in rugby, and his side is struggling.

Pretty hard to comparing running metres of a fullback (primarily) versus three flyhalves.

Yeah Scotty that's fair, though Foley has done ok - and in many ways Cooper and O'Connor have played similar roles, with O'Connor coming into first receiver a lot while playing at fullback.

Nothing in there one can really argue with - in fact it looks like a top-class front 8... I am not a huge fan of Slipper - but in the absence of any outstanding alternatives...

What IS Your read on the backline?

Mark Ella (57)
He needs to play out on the wing more?

He obviously doesn't fulfil the core roles of a 6/8 - lineout (best backrow lineout forward in Oz and has been for years), running metres, tackles, breakdown involvements.........

He wouldn't be a leader would he? Maybe he should Captain some Club and Rep sides first......

Foley has done ok. Seems to take on the line a bit more than the other guys, my only issue with him is that when he does it is often pretty obvious he isn't going to pass the ball.
