Which is why it was a damn shame when Mowen left, because he was both. The only guys that come to mind now that could lead as well as him are Hodgson and Dennis, and they would struggle to make it on the Wallabies bench.


Good point - Mowen was a big loss in the respect of fulfilling the dual role and I wouldn't rate rate Hodgson or Dennis at that level either, when they play Super Rugby.

There a few that are around with the potential. Pat McCutcheon of the Tahs would be a natural if he were a good enough player.

Gill and Browning are closer to the mark in being future on field leaders good enough to hold a place in test matches but that is not going to happen anytime soon if it ever does.

But it's food for thought for the Reds a few years down the track.
