MCA far too strong for SLC at home (5 tries to 1 maybe?) . MCA 15 plays at another level to the rest of the boys - a genuine talent ; second half a lot closer after MCA 15 left the field due to a head knock.
SLC 8 the most dominant forward on the park.
MCA definitely the benchmark side and will take some beating. In all honesty, if they can neutralise MCA 15 (easier said than done) PAD might be in with a chance.
Seconds a little closer with MCA getting up 3 tries to 1, but that game was a good matchup.

MCA still have Dreghon and Laffa from last year to come back into this team with another 3 also due back over the next 3 weeks. If Iona got the better of Padua I cant see them getting close but I hope it is. MCA has alot of good players who always step up and depth. In respect to Floyd. He is in his 3rd yr of 1XV and will wear some form of rep jersey post school. A name to follow. A special talent.

Very surprised at some of the results. So much for my forecasts. Lauries have a habit of lying down in trials only to bounce back in competitions, so wouldn't read too much into their game yesterday.
Pretty sure Floyd Aubrey wasn't in the 2018 First XV. Can someone confirm?

He appeared to be quite concussed - surprisingly the ref didn't order him straight off. He didn't play the second half - might be out for a mandatory 2/3 weeks?

Good to know that after one good year last year for SLC First XV, that SLC firsts are now back to their days of old. Having almost 50 put on them against a depleted Ashgrove side has to leave scars for all involved. It was so reminiscent of a couple years ago when the Laurie’s side would lose each game by 40+ points. Laurie’s best back, #15 also went down with a severe injury so there attack and defence will be severely affected going forward. Bryant #8 a shining light in a team of otherwise passengers on Saturday afternoon at beautiful Ash field 1. Believe they play Padua this week in a trial. Another loss and some serious questions will need to be asked of whether it’s another year of false hope for SLC supporters.

The shortened season with COVID-19 restriction will see fewer year 11s in the firsts, with most 50/50 calls for selections going to year 12s to play 1XV for their last year at school. Some of the years 11s to watch from all of the different schools.
IONA- Saxon Warick who played in the 1XV last year. Saxon is a powerful ball runner and a significant presence on the park. Aidan Sutherland is also looking to make substantial impacts this season, a hard running, hard-working player who can play a full 70 minutes. Saxon of course playing in the Queensland 16s White team last year. predicted positions- 1, 6
SLC- John Bryant has had big wraps, he started last year and has been a bright prospect in an apparent weak SLC side. A very technical player, also playing in the Queensland 16s Maroon team. With the current year 11s winning the premiership last year in grade 10 could set for more strong players coming in next year. predicted position - 8
SPC- There is a couple of year 11s that have high chances of playing 1XV in 2020 players like Jackson Dowes and Jack Booker, who played Queensland 16s White team last year. With Tim Ryan also returning on the wing for SPC, although would expect a position change for the young lad to get more ball in hand. predicted positions- 9, 8, 15
MCA- Marist has a solid year 12 cohort this year, but have great depth provided from the ear 11s as Ashgrove always have. Hayden Lammon is expected to start for the 1XV this year, a powerful ball runner, but does have a reputation of having poor discipline in games. predicated position- 13
VILLA- Villanvona much like Marist has a strong year 12 cohort, although they got blown out by MCA in the trial, we may see more year 11s in the side. Henry Holt seems to be among the starting team. Not much else is known from this Villanova team in the year 11s. predicted position - 15
SEC- Weak as usual but a shining light in this SEC side could be Jed Lacey. Jed played Queensland 15s last year and will be a crucial role in the SEC side. A powerful ball runner with a strong kicking game expecting much play to come through him in the season. predicted position- 10
Padua- A solid year 11 cohort here, with Leighton Whippy the Queensland 16s White player. Leighton started more than half the games last year in grade 10, expecting big things from him this year. One to watch. Max Johnson, is Queensland rep as well in the Queensland Maroon side, a big lad who knows his way around the park, seeing him as an impact player this year—predicted positions 1, 5.

My sources tell me that SPLC have some very big boys and also with Australian schoolboy Kenyan Tapuakiya (mind the spelling) and QLD U16 League rep John Radel 2 strong players that should be watched out for

Sounds like a very close game. Lauries will feel they could have gotten that one.
Given today's score and Marist's towelling of Lauries last week, Ashgrove still the front runners.
Will be some great matchups in the Southside pool with Iona, Villa and St Peter's all quality sides.

Lauries /Padua wasn't a very expansive game. Lauries chose to take maybe 3 shots at penalty goal, which might have pointed to the idea that even though it was a trial, the W was more important. The Padua sin bin was 7 mins from the end, the Lauries try was in the first 5 mins of the game. Marist wouldn't be shaking in their boots I wouldn't think.
2nds was close (12-10 to Padua). 15A's (OK 10A's!!!) was Padua as well.
Might go and havealook at Villa v Pats tomorrow to get a better idea of the lay of the land.

SLC have now lost both trials against Ashgrove and Padua. We’re definitely favourites to win their pool preseason but have since slipped. From all reports Padua lost a man in the last 10 and Laurie’s had countless attacking opportunities but weren’t able to convert into points. Another disappointing result for the men in black who’s season is starting to slip away before it’s even really started. Vila next week I believe. Villa expected to get #15 back from injury in what could well swing the game Villa’s way at home.

As promised, I went out to Villa Park today to havealook at Villa v Pats. Villa won the 1sts maybe 31-19 or something around that, the 2nds was Villa 24-5 and the 3rds was Villa as well. The 1sts was much closer than the score line suggested and Pats had two yellows given against them one at the back end of the first half and one at the back end of the second half. It got a bit testy at times. Pats scrum was good, but Villa seemed to be able to put points on when it mattered.
After now seeing five of the sides in pre season action and running a form line through the rest, I'm plugging for an Ash v Iona final in the 1sts, and Ash v Villa in the 2nds. With apologies to the lurker, Padua are in the same pool as Ashgrove and will need to do lot more to worry them.
