As promised, I went out to Villa Park today to havealook at Villa v Pats. Villa won the 1sts maybe 31-19 or something around that, the 2nds was Villa 24-5 and the 3rds was Villa as well. The 1sts was much closer than the score line suggested and Pats had two yellows given against them one at the back end of the first half and one at the back end of the second half. It got a bit testy at times. Pats scrum was good, but Villa seemed to be able to put points on when it mattered.

After now seeing five of the sides in pre season action and running a form line through the rest, I'm plugging for an Ash v Iona final in the 1sts, and Ash v Villa in the 2nds. With apologies to the lurker, Padua are in the same pool as Ashgrove and will need to do lot more to worry them.

SLC 2nds stronger then Villa 2nds? I think SLC 2nds will beat Villa Seconds this week. However, don’t see either side beating Iona 2nds.

Villa vs SLC First XV gonna be a big one. Villa coming into the game with confidence after a good win over St Pat’s. SLC on the other hand have now lost 3 on the trot and will be searching for answers this week coming. SLC looking lost in attack and really struggling with edge defence and centre defence. Expect Villa #15 and #12 to exploit both these defensive issues.
Laurie’s forward pack should dominate Villa forward pack but Villa backs are a step above Lauries backs currently. Losing #15 has hurt SLC badly and quiet frankly the backline struggles to make a line break without him. SLC’s only real backline game plan seems to be for the #10 to kick whenever he gets the ball. Villa #15 will eat this up. Gonna be a great game though.

Padua vs marist round 3 is a massive game. Padua would’ve had to be the favourites behind Marist to make the GF if they weren’t in the same pool. The shear size of Paduas forward pack lead by the number 8 will cause havoc on both eddies and pats.

Will all be good games but the SLC Seconds did match up well with Ashgrove (3 tries to 1 loss notwithstanding) - SLC Seconds the dark horse there.

Does anyone know if St Peters have a Second XV side this year? Or are Ambrose Treacy Firsts taking their place?

For us not so well informed can you include the opposition thanks..

Marist are playing SEC fair prediction there. MCA will point alot of points on SEC.
Padua have SPC and again a convincing win on the cards for Padua.
Villa have SLC, with lauries team in poor form form at the moment it is expected for Villa to win
Iona have SPLC, im not sure about this prediction as SPLC have been seen as dark horses, do still expect Iona to win, the margin will be exciting none the less.

Predictions...
MCA vs SEC - MCA 60+
PAD vs SPC - PAD 25+
SPLC vs IONA - IONA 5-10
VNC vs SLC - Either side by 7 or less. Leaning towards VNC at home.

I doubt the northside games will give us any surprises, MCA and Padua will both win comfortably. The Southside division will be very interesting though, and give us a clearer indication of who are contenders and who are pretenders.

I'll go out on a limb and back SLC by 5 over Villa. But what I'm most interested in is the Iona v Peters game as this will really shake up the comp if we are to believe the mystery that are St Peters. Still say Iona by 12.
