AIC Rugby 2019

Looking forward to SLC vs ASH. Lauries will have plenty of confidence and are playing well so its our best chance in a long time of not being a chance to be a chance. I have heard the SLC vs ASH old boys touch game will be won in the carpark with ex-UFC star the Badger ready to take all comers from the blue and gold with one arm tied behind his back haha

MCA $1.35 v SLC $2.50

MCA - 9.5 - $1.90
SLC + 9.5 - $1.90

Get some

MCA odds too short, but the line looks about right.

From what I can tell SLC's 8 Bryant is their linchpin, he looks to be in great form as a ball runner.

It wouldn't surprise me if MCA give their 6 Nick Baker the challenge of dealing with Bryant, a case of the unstoppable force meets the immovable object.

Baker was Bryant's captain in the Qld U15 Red team last year.

Did he make him do this ?

It will be a good match to have a look at

The Lauries scrum is very good and their lineout is also very good . I reckon they have Marist licked in both categories here.

Lauries have some good go forward running but Marist are always better drilled defensively and on ball than every other AIC School and whatever they have historically lacked in a smash mouth type of player or game style they make up in the grind game - which is worth something

I wonder whether MCA might have the edge in the midfield though when they are in attack and whether Lauries will be up to it defensively

So Lauries - set piece and forward runners and Marist the scrap and midfield upper hand

What do we think about the introduction of League to the AIC schools? Is it there to stay?

I am predicting Lauries to win! They thrive with the underdog tag. SLC number 6 is their key defensive player, not playing in his best position though. Apparently just come back from injury, team dynamic changes when he is on his game, his defense and pace are relentless. Capable of shutting down most of MCA and their fast backline players, which was proven in 10A's last year. Lauries scrum is their strength, however they will really need their backline to step it up. MCA backline have strength with their speed and if left to get a run on will be devastating.

Lauries defence is the best part of their game, they kept Eddies to 0 and also Iona at Ballymore Cup to zip.

The lauries camp have a big opportunity to change history this weekend. With MCA coming off a
clinical display of rugby set pieces, it will be a huge task for the slc boys. However I believe the pressure of SLC old boys day and slc's winning morale will cause an upset of the decade.
Tipping #9 , #10 and #2 to be the real stand outs for this game (SLC).

I agree, big team culture has been a key focus for the coaches this year with the boys and seems to be paying off... Home ground advantage may come out for the boys? However I’m sure both schools will have quality numbers out there hopefully. A good day of rugby.

Does anyone remember the 2017 10A's game between Lauries and Ashgrove? MCA had around 80% posession, yet SLC's grit and heart got them to a 7-7 draw (they'd lost to the same Ashgrove team by more than 50 points in the trial match only a few weeks prior). Most of those same boys are in this year's first side, and the boys in the grade below beat MCA in 2017 as well to claim a 3 peat premiership. If the Lauries boys bring that same mentality, and truly believe they have what it takes to climb Everest and beat Marist at their own game then I think everyone at Runcorn on Saturday might be in for the game of the season.

I remember this game, it was outstanding and you are right most of the boys from this 10A's team are now in this Firsts squad. I hope SLC can provide an upset, it will be a close game though.

Past performance means very little in terms of the result of this week's game, but at the same time it's a bit laughable for anyone to rely on individual games in 2017 when attempting to predict the outcome of a schoolboys game in 2019.

However, if you did want to look back at previous MCA v SLC results as a some kind of predictor for this Saturday's First XV game, surely 2018 is a better guide than 2017.

I'd say that in 2018 just about every boy playing in the Firsts for MCA and SLC this Saturday played in either the First XV, Second XV or Year 10 A's, so what were the results of those games?

First XV: MCA 57 SLC 5
Second XV: MCA 50 SLC 0
10 A's: MCA 17 SLC 7

I'm sure both sides fully believe they can win on Saturday, climbing Everest will be the last thing on the minds of the Lauries boys, so the result will simply come down to a contest of talent and execution.

On the significance of the game being played on Old Boys day, I made the point last year when Iona played SPC on their Old Boys day to seal an undefeated premiership that the crowd expectation can often have a negative effect on the home team and so it proved that day. This week, who knows?
