As a general rule the teams that have been beaten wont get better at all against the top 3. Hence my form guide that Villa will get up by 20+ (after a grinding first half).
Tip for SLC v ASH game, ASH No 6 to be man of the match. Baker is awsome, only just shaded by the capt No 7 and the in centre No12. Only 2 sleeps.
Safe games all.

agree baker is a superstar and is mca gamebreaker

The irony is that with a bit of rain around the much anticipated SLC v MCA game could be called off. The AIC has a habit of calling these things early.

Full time ash 17 nil I'll tell you what it was incredibly close between them Lauries scrum superior..Very close considering the 2 forward pass tries in the first half

17 to 0 - No excuses. SLC lost but showed heart. They were not the better team. Certainly better at set lineout and scrum, but that was it. Ball in hand very average.
As such SLC couldnt score a point.
Ash 7, 6 and 8 dominant with every Ash backline member better than SLC counterpart.
SLC had a very well drilled tight 5.
Ash and Villa last 2 standing now.

MCA’s defense was very good and they had an edge in the on ground game - both teams winning turnover ball , although , MCA seemed to be able to do it at critical moments to snuff out whatever momentum SLC could muster . However , it is a marvel that MCA will likely be undefeated premiers with basically no set piece in either scrum or lineout.

MCA were the better team - no question . But it’s unfortunate that basic catch / pass errors led to 2 of MCA’s tries ( and not as a result of any undue pressure ) and poor midfield defense led to MCA’s other try .

Fabulous effort from MCA to dig deep after Floyd Aubrey ( 15 ) went down who was clearly a class above everyone else on the field and threatened to blow the game wide open all on his own . Good game management from Sam Stephens ( 9 ) to keep Lauries pinned down in their own territory with a smart kicking game . I thought Josh Radford ( 12 ) had a strong game and his tough yards through the middle really set the tone . Congratulations to MCA’s workmanlike back row that had to make up for significant deficiency in the set piece and also in any impactful go forward running game. But defensive commitment was yeoman like

For Lauries , John Bryant ( 8 ) didn’t play badly but found the going a bit tougher against the toughest defense he will find at this level of competition . The Lauries tight 5 is very very good and pretty much had their way with their counterparts . What it came down to Lauries just didn’t have a closer ( or closers ) and MCA had more consistent depth in fundamental skill - which made the most of Lauries errors, however, outside of Floyd Aubrey - MCA don’t really have a closer either

Congratulations to all boys in a well played competitive and spirited game

17 - 0. So let it go.
SLC were lucky not to have a man off for 10 given the hit on ASH No 15 - who had his chin glued back up, and played no more part.
Just look forward to next year. Ash won the seconds and SLC snuck home by a point in the 10As.
Will next year make a decade for ASH or did they get the 10 years today?
Let it go...

Villa seriously out enthused Iona today - line speed in defence was great. Iona were never in it after the 20th minute. Late try to the black and white made the score line more respectable but Villa seemed out of gas at that point. Interestingly the Villa coach made no subs at all , even late when Villa forwards looked tired. Not sure he can afford to do that against ASH or SLC. Having said that Livingstone the Villa Captain didn’t play due to a red card against Padua and he is a dynamic ball runner and solid defender so he will strengthen that pack next week. Today the Villa 1, 9 and 15 were best players on the paddock.
