the Melbourne Rebels have played one Sunday afternoon game this year, on the same Sunday as the F1 GP. before the game the small park beside AAMI was packed with families and kids running around having a blast. this attitude made the game better and hopefully they will do it at least once a year.
Agree, except on the same day/time as another major sporting event in the city.

Wouldn't mind a few more Saturday games. Forever having to finish work early and/or take leave before Friday night games.

Yeah the cross over with the GP was terrible. The Saturday night game against the Crusaders was amazing for another reason, the score line, that aside Saturday night games would be fine IF no AFL footy was on at the MCG

Generally there's not a game on and we typically do well up against Aussie Rules.

Easily sorted: club, school and juniors all day on Saturdays, Super Rugby and tests on Sunday afternoons with a 2:00pm kickoff.

Looks like JON's been reading my posts, in yesterday's Oz:

O'Neill sings praises of Sunday Tests

ARU chief executive John O'Neill believes the future of afternoon Test rugby is on Sunday rather than Saturday.

The ARU is still keen to schedule at least one Test a year in the daytime even though night games deliver better television ratings. This was underlined by the ratings for the recent Welsh series with the two night games in Brisbane and Melbourne out-rating the afternoon match in Sydney. The third Test at Allianz Stadium in Sydney last Saturday afternoon attracted a ground record crowd of 42,889, but the TV audience dropped 140,000 viewers from the second Test in Melbourne the previous week. Ultimately, it is revenue from broadcast rights that funds the game.

"The dilemma is we had a great day last Saturday," O'Neill said. "Everyone who went to the game had a ball, but the viewership was down. We've got to come up with a formula where we can play at least one day Test a year in Sydney or Brisbane. I think a Sunday game with a 3.45pm kick-off would be better. You run into a lot of opposition on Saturday from school sport and club sport. There are a lot of things going on on a Saturday. There is less competition on Sunday."

JONno, me old mucker, how you like the invoice to be made out?

Well done JON, it's good that you've seen the evidence and acted accordingly. I've been critical before, but he's called this one right.

Lindo, props to you ;)

Thanks, TBH. If the kick-off time has to be wobbled about a bit to get the viewing audience on Sunday arvos, well, I suppose we'll have to grin and bear it. An earlier time of 2:00pm should at least be trialled.

Take into account that it was a dead rubber too - had it been a series decider against the All Blacks then the viewers would not have dropped off.
