This thread was started to help overseas Rugby fans find out how to access game videos.

Hey all, I live in Massachusetts, US, along with hundreds of other Aussies, Kiwi's and Saffers. Over the last few years most of us were getting access to Super rugby, Currie Cup, and Kiwi Premiership (can't remember its name - yes I'm a dope) through the RugbyZone website. For some reason that website doesn't have a license to carry the 2011 Super 15. What is wrong with SANZAR to not have a broadcast outlet in the USA! Any way, I am hoping that your combined resources will help to identify options for US based ruggers to watch the S15. Ideally, rugby fans in other countries searching for games will also use this discussion to seek help to meet their rugby needs.

bit torrents is the way to go if you have the technical savvy. When I lived overseas I didn't (and still don't) unfortunately. Outside of that there is a website that you can subscribe to to download games, forget the name though.

Hi TomMccann,

Please understand we can't post any links to illegal websites that stream the rugby or to those that allow downloading of games via bit torrent services.

We will post lots of news and video montages through the season so the best advice is to keep logging into www.greenandgoldrugby.com through the season for your Super 15 fix.

To all who responded - thanks a lot - some very useful suggestions which I'll be sharing with all the rugby players / fans I know here in the US. BTW, I'm involved in rugby admin in the North East of the US so if any of you are in the area let me know. Am happy to hook you up with a game, a club, or at least a post-game drink up. Its a very different scene over here, but the rugby culture is the same as I experienced as a player in Canberra and Sydney.

Thanks TOCC, I'll get the word out but, unfortunately, my wife won't let me put a Direct TV dish on the house - yes, just call me 'whipped'!

Panda Man, I regularly ship stuff to friends back in Oz if local retails don't ship there. Let me know if you need a hand. FYI, check out Old Gold rugby club - www.oldgoldrugby.com. They are my boys!

So the rumor from a Direct TV representative and from the NZRU "Broadcasting & Content Manager", Direct TV own the rights to both the Super15 and Tri-Nations...

It will apparently be broadcast free on channel 490, no word on SD/HD yet, a page should be up in the coming week.

Alternatively, use a prox server and access Setanta Sports Asia

I talked to Directv yesterday and they don't have a channel 490 and there is nothing in their databases that has anything to do with super rugby.

After reading the posts on RD though, I am feeling extremely optimistic now.

Thanks guys

As Direct TV isnt' an option for me, looks like learning about proxy servers is in my near future. By the way, Universal Sports, an NBC channel (Channel 288 on Comcast) is showing a couple of hours of the Rugby 7's World Series (NZ leg) tonight and tomorrow afternoon. Its also my understanding that next week they will be showing a a significant portion of the Las Vegas 7's leg of the series.

You might be able to get something going with a VPN. Witopia have an SSL vpn package with a Sydney server, which will allow you access video on the Fox Sports website. Not sure if they have a server which will work for Setanta but worth a look.
