It looks to me like Johnson Holmes for a full match maybe both sides of the scrum a reserve prop because 40m is about Chapmans limit. taking three hookers for trial? A couple of the named hookers that can fill loose head in an emergency. Phil Bradford must have been discussed in this and given his mobility might be a little disappointed he moved from prop

I saw Horton play hooker for Uni vs Randwick and he is all class. Don't think Uni lost a lineout all day, got a great throw and more than handy around the park.

Good luck to all players tonight. It's raised a few eyebrows this selection but those players have really got to perform, in fact, everyone has to! Not many spots are safe going to JWC.

A lot of work to be done by the Aussie boys.

Only a handful that come out on top for the overall. A lot of "drift wood" particularly in the reserves. If that's our best team based upon the super 20's competition then wow. Really missing nucifora and Stewart.

Whilst the weather did play a part, we didn't take advantage of it though "tripping" over ourselves.

Based on form and availability, it'll be pretty close. Obviously a Horton was injured for the Super under 20s so didn't see much of him. Swain and Hockings would be my starting locks, and like it or not I wouldn't be surprised if Jooste gets the nod at 12 based on reputation and experience. Looks like a handy back line but a bit iffy on the wing

Well wasn't a fan of either Horton or Jooste. Lucky they have big reputations!

Thing ur call for 4 & 5 is spot on. Thought 1,2 & 3 did well but we need more of them. A lot of injuries in these positions, so we do need them!

And that surprises you? First game together, testing combinations. Playing in tough conditions.

What do you mean by driftwood?

How can you judge reserves when they play <20 mins? Strang, Swinton, Horton, 17 and 18 had limited game time and McGregor played for 30. I thought he made a difference but looked to be crocked going off to sheds. Agree Stewart would make a difference but he wasn't available.

Horton had no protection from his props, biggest is not always best, in a world of monster no.3 the little bloke seems to hold his own.... you know 183cm 115 -120 kg ...little they are there the ball runner point of difference is gravy.......no good without the meat and veg

cant complain after being selected with less time than that in the 20s tournament

Yes well that's the judgement/experience part. The replacements for starters (16,17 &18) destabilised the scrum, the control at the breakdown got messy; didn't really get to see many line outs (unfortunately). That said Swain (particularly) and Swinton were good. You don't need a lot of time to see what impact the replacements had, the whole dominance of game shifted, that's yr evidence.

McGregor looked like he was rushing and that destabilised the structure of the backs. The affect of that was any attack was flat and ineffective. I did like the way he kicked tactically and the use of the wind. However discipline, structure and sometimes poor decision making (throwing to 7, attacking, in a 25 knot wind) failed to convert to more points.

I think Samoa is a much better side than Fiji, so making a judgment about the kiwis result is hard to make at this stage.
