Reading the tea leaves through a glass darkly - that was an emphatic win by NSW, given that the Aus Barbarians just beat Tonga on the bell in their warm-up game on Thursday and Qld beat the Baas on the bell today.

But that starting team was close to NSW's best, and who can say what the strength of the other teams was today, or on Thursday?

Very even and the lead just kept switching. The Baa Baas dominated in the scrums. A few dropped balls and miscommunications in the Baa Baas, but a great hit out for both sides. I was surprised QLD wasn't more dominant, though they had fewer mistakes overall.
Played with good spirit but very aggressive. A few hard hits left some boys on the deck recovering with trainers for a minute or two, but no serious injuries as far as I could tell.
Both teams started with their 1-15 jerseys I think (might have been one or two exceptions) but I missed the first 20 minutes.
There are programs but no team names with numbers, so difficult to name names. Nobody was really a standout, but Fittock and Rhodda for QLD were everywhere.
Hopefully other correspondents will have more to add.
Agree that the baa baas were better in the scrums. Very even contest and could have gone either way. If you missed the first 20 there was an unfortunate collision between the baa baas winger J. Kotz and fullback J. Fulivai who came into the squad late to replace Jonah Placid who played for the Rebels last night. Kotz did not return to the field but should be right to play NSW on Monday. They also lost JR in the second half with an ankle injury and Fulivai late with what looked like cramp. Qld looked to not have any real injuries but would be relieved to have got the chocolates after a quick tap from a penalty just inside their half with a minute to go. This broke a 29 all deadlock. For the baa baas they can hold their heads up and look better drilled than they were against Tonga on Thursday.

Yeah - he told me he was going to tweet but I'm an old bloke and don't know how to use it. Never tried actually.

Hugh Jarse usually posts them here but he must be having a day off.

Been off line watching live footy with Junior Jarses, and then catching up on recorded games on the Foxtel IQ. Will do a bit of a copy and paste of @CDeegan tweets shortly.

Beautiful day in Canberra @ 20c. Should be conducive to good rugby.
Very impressive start by QLD
QLD 3-0 Long range penalty from No 10
Nasty clash of bodies for BAR. All good.
Both teams very big. QLD looks the goods early.
QLD 10 - 0 Sustained attack by forwards converted by No10. 15th minute. Harley Fox scored, converted by Dalgleish, penalty kicked by Dalgleish.
10-7 QLD lock No.5 into the bin for minor infringement and BAR score & convert.
QLD 13 BAR 7 ruck penalty in front to QLD. Wind in favour of BAR for the first half. About 21c/
BAR No5 gets binned. QLD No5 get ready to come back on. Dalgleish misses the penalty.
QLD 13 BAR 14 Great sustained attack and lovely ball work from the piggies.

Half time. Qld 13 Baas 14 Great tussle and the two teams will be keen to get the advantage early in the second half. QLD to have the wind. Qld majority of possession but lacking polish in finishing. Baas have capitalised on their limited possession

QLD 13 BAR 17. Penalty in front to the BAR
QLD 16 BAR 17. Penalty to QLD, not sure what for.
Qld on attack, sustained pressure but knocked on in 22. Scrum.
QLD 21 BAR 17. lovely backline sweep sees No.11 score in the corner.
QLD 21 BAR 24. BARS No.10 scores a beautiful try down the middle of field after some skilfull lead up. The intensity is lifting.
BAR starting to dominate at the scrum.
QLD 24 BAR 24. Penalty from 45mtrs with the wind.
QLD 29 BAR 24. Beautiful try from a bust by No22 to lay off to No14 - no conversion. The game is opening up.
10mins left on the clock and this one looks likely to go down to the wire - a couple of cramps holding things up.
QLD 29 - BAR 29!!! Beautiful work from BAR backs into the corner. Kick unsuccessful.
QLD 36 BAR 29. Sensational run of play. No15 for QLD Scores under the posts. It's full time. A great game and wonderful display of talent.

I'd be really interested to see some of those U20 6 Nations games. There doesn't seem to be much of a pattern to the results and some of the traditionally poor JWC teams (Scotland) have picked up a few good scalps.

Steve Williams (59)
Not managed to see the current crop in action, haven't found enough footage/streaming, but from all reports its the best U20 crop in recent memory. Fewer and fewer of the boys are part of the club game, most are in Academies, English, French or Scottish, a handful have started a few games for Glasgow or Edinburgh, and then there's the bolters, like George Horne, scrum half and brother of Peter, current Glasgow player.

Zander Fagerson is the pick of the bunch though. Tighthead prop, first year out of school (so has another year on the circuit) has started 3 games for Glasgow and played another 6 off the bench.

Think we've got the French, Kiwis and Pumas in the pool, so top 4 is virtually out of the question, but Lineen would be very happy with the quality available.
