Interesting comments from Jake and he makes some very valid points re: Heyneke's conservative approach - 'when in doubt, go with the Bulls player'! Although it does makes me wonder whether there is still some anger bubbling under the surface with Jake after Victor Matfield told Jake that Meyer was the best coach he'd ever played under, AFTER Jake and the Boks had just won the RWC in 2007.

They are some interesting comments there Brisbok. Jake never coached a provincial side in SA, so was never quite as biased as people make Meyer out to be. I might be wrong there though. If I am, any of our SA contributors should feel free to correct my ignorance!:)

Speaking of Jake though, he really does like to give his opinion. He has earned that right though. I also think he is really enjoying coaching a provincial team that is not in SA.

Agree that he is probably the solution for us at 10 Paarl. However, he is 19/20 years old, has played a handful of Super Rugby games where he picked up a relatively serious shoulder injury. Since he's come back, he's played approx. 50 mins of Currie Cup rugby (and was understandably pretty rusty by all reports, including one from his CC coach). Now we are wanting to throw him straight into his test debut away against Australia and then possibly NZ, and expect him to solve all of our game plan problems.

Do you not think we might be putting a tiny bit too much pressure on him? At the very least, his injury needs to be managed properly so that it does not occur again.

You probably right but then we can take Etsebet as an example. The laaitie is only a few months older and playing in the tight five and probably the most physical Bok in the test against the Pumas. Do you realise Eben havent played any CC rugby and was thrown striaght into S15 and test rugby. Goosen have been groomed since his schoolboy days and have what it take to be a legend Bok. He is a freek and we need rugby freaks to beat the Wallabies next week. It will be a massive upset if we beat them.

I agree with you Paarl, I think Goosen has definitely got what it takes. The only thing that I am worried about is he is not 100% over his injury and hasn't yet regained the form he showed in Super Rugby. Throwing him into a crucial test match when he is just trying to work his way back from injury is a big risk for him physically and mentally.

If he had played the whole Super Rugby season and maintained the form he had before his injury, I would have absolutely no problem with starting him. But you don't want throw him in there when he is not yet back to form/100% over his injury and destroy his confidence.

Well hope to see him on the bench at least. Pretty sure Heyneke wont pick him if he isnt 100%.

Beale has two problems.

One, he couldn't run on his hamstring, which impeded his fitness. This meant he missed most of the SupeRugby training season that the national squad relies on.

Two, he has the aboriginal body shape that many indigenous sportsmen struggle with when they don't train. For Beale, this is an unfortunate combination of circumstances that he is likely to struggle with for his career. The fact he's got fat may not be a result of pies or getting on ths piss.

I think we should get behind him, instead of treating him with the utter contempt we usually do for Wallabies that are out of form for some reason.

If by chance he was physically incapable of training to maintain the required fitness levels then fair enough, there are ways of mitigating this through other activities but you cant replicate the actually biomechanics of running if your hamstring is buggered, so il give him that...

BUT! KB (Kurtley Beale) plays a absolutely terrible match in Sydney, which he also admitted to, then he allegedly goes out on the piss and parties till the early hours of the morning.. What is that saying, if he knew he had substandard fitness, he shouldnt be going on and hitting the piss which is only going to make matters worse for him physically, he should be steering clear of the alcahol and getting up early in the morning and conducting a rehab session and maybe squeeze in some extras..

Il get behind a bloke like Mitchell who is completely unfortunate in terms of injuries, but i wont get behind a player who is doing himself no favours

And.. i should clarify that im not having a dig at KB (Kurtley Beale) directly, im just putting the case forward that KB (Kurtley Beale) doesnt deserve sympathy of the fans if he isnt doing everything in his power to be the best player possible give the performance he just put in, even the simple things like drinking the week prior to a Wallaby test match....

I used to put the alcohol aside during my club rugby season for the purpose of getting the most out of my body, surely a professional sportsmen can do the same.

There have been a few tweets from Quade and Kurtley in the last few days about them going and training together.

Many of the Wallabies are mates. Part of that should involve players telling their mates that they're not fit enough and they need to work harder or letting them know about any other problems.

If someone struggles with their fitness then their mates should help them make it better. It's not going to hurt one of the fittest players to go for an extra run with one of the less fit players.

On the same token if a player struggles with their diet other players could help out by sharing good meals etc.

I can't help but think that if our team were a team more off the field it would translate to them being more of a team on the field.

So just been reading the RUPA CBA and this is part of the players agreement:

16.2 You warrant to the ARU and to the [Name of Relevant Union] that to the best of your knowledge you are in excellent physical condition, and you undertake to take all reasonable steps to maintain yourself in excellent physical condition (save for injury suffered or incurred in the performance of your obligations set out in this letter) including following reasonable directions by the ARU or the [Name of Relevant Union] in relation to the treatment of any injury or other condition

Not happy that Jake Shatz got dropped. But good to see names like McCabe, Tapuai, Shipperely, Neville and Cummins there.

So no O'Connor then?

Since we're going to start talking about the centres sooner or later, I'll get my picks in early:

12. Tapuai
13. McCabe/AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)

If Beale is fit I'd play him at the back, if not AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) to 15 and McCabe starts.
