This one was a good old properse hiding, the 5 tries against the Wallabies was lekker sweet. Made up for all the matches we should have won but lost against the Wallabies in recent times. Could have been much more ugly , maybe next time.

pretty typical saffa attitude really. always some small but critical factor as to why you don't win. But for some bad luck you'd be winning every match, ja?

I am saying that I am not a fan of TPN Kamikaze football.

I believe in the long term it will actually harm him. How many times has he been concussed now?

I want the players to learn to tackle in a safe manner to minimise injury to both themselves and their opponents.

When there is no one on the bench to replace him for the inevitable injury, then he really needs to act in the best interests of the team and avoid a situation where we get to a 14 man team playing uncontested scrums. Avoiding kamikaze acts on his behalf is part of this.

On the other hand, once the bat is knocked in......

The more passionate the supporter, the more apt this quote from Grandpa Jarse is:

"You will never beat [insert team name], but you will often score more points than them."

The springboks were fantastic. The few phases that the wallabies strung together in the second half were an act of pity. It was like watching a schoolboys side having a run against a hungry, angry premiership side.

I actually thought the Boks were not so good: what they had a lot of was commitment and a determination not to die wondering. They out "physicaled" us but they made some silly errors which i think they would be ruing because the AB's will punish them.
Unfortunately I think Goosen may be something special.

Springbokke played exactly like I thought they will play. Forwards again dominated but this time with Goosen and Jean back in his best position joined the party. Etsebet, Flo and Duanne was massive. Now we need to stop the All Blacks this weekend. If we keep the same form we will do just that.

Wallabies, dunno, not a single one showed up and the record has been set straight.

I agree with the whole first paragraph but what record has been set straight? It's the first one they've won in the last 7, there's still a way to catch up in the recent history. I'd also argue that a handful did show up but we just weren't up to the physical intensity of the Boks on the night.

Bloody hell IS, you are a hard taskmaster.

Committed, determined, outphysicaled. To me that is a good team.

Does Goosen have any Australian Grandparents? Too late now I guess.

Finally watched it for various reasons.
I won't rehash all the injury issues - except to say the sheer volume of them in Aus rugby of late cannot be all bad luck, and I agree S & C and some poor techniques (AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), TPN etc) have to be looked at far more closely.
For us, a couple of good patches, with some great commitment at times. Hooper, Beale gave us something, Sharpe solid, McCabe honest and never gave up, but that's about it. Flat, static attack again most of the time, defence good at times but some bad reads also.
The Bokke - far more physicality, urgency with better support play, front foot runners. Far from perfect, which is a worry as we were far from them. A good win.

I am.
But there's a lesson in my view that SA weren't up to scratch in execution: enthusiasm, physicality and desire can overcome a lot of shortcomings/errors in terms of skill, and even wrong tactical choices, in most games.
Sometimes, though not recently, it can even overcome the AB's.
I thought our blokes looked dead tired - not tired as they do after 80 minutes but just exhausted (even before we went down to 14 men).
And, perhaps this should be in the Wallabies positivity thread, the Pumas got walloped at home by the darkness - so our performances against them have to be seen in context (now I'm channeling Dingo).

Why is Fat Cat being benched so early? It seems to be predetermined and takes place irrespective of the position of the game.
I guess that means that no one has to make a judgment call about whether to leave him on or not and on the evidence so far our short suit is sound judgment calls.oh and bench planning.

I admit I don't pay all that much attention to Aussie substitution decisions, but I thought the plan is to have him go nuts for 30 mins, let him rest for another 30 mins and then plan for an injury to one of the other props at about the 60 minute mark so he can come on for a frenetic final 20 minutes.

Nothing wrong with the strategy apart from the fact it means you effectively only have a 6 man bench. It only came unstuck because there were so many injuries.

A good test for most things in rugby is "what would the all blacks do?".
I dont see them adopting this strategy.

Just rewatched the game. If Beale is going to have a serious crack at 10 for the wobs he needs to learn to be decisive with ball in hand. To many times he got the ball rather flat, jinked one way, decided maybe that wasn't the best way, then the other way might be an option, finally isolating himself or chucking a speculator.

Mind you its not an issue isolated to just Beale at 10, it happened to Cooper last fortnight. If he was running a team which had a plan, and runners understanding which lines they should be running he would be able to make proper decisions. Phipps also panicked and flung him the ball a number of times too. Phipps looked confused most of the game. He is a very ordinary decision maker.

Finally the Boks managed to close a game out. As great as it was to get the win, I still believe that beating a team struck by injuries the way the Wallabies have, together with Cooper and Deans behind the scenes makes it abit of a hollow victory for me. I would have liked to have seen the best players on the field, and I'm not really sure why there are so many injuries in the Oz camp??? Just an unlucky season ???

I think that we have a nice group of young players coming through (Finally!) And a bit of testmatch experience is going to go a long way for us.

Worries:

-Still left a load of points on the field via missed kicks, and close tries, and that will be a worry for HM come next week. Goosen kicked 85%+ in Super rugby and is a much more accurate kicker than his 0/2 will suggest. I think he'll come good after abit of gametime. I felt that they should have given him afew more shots towards the death.

-Worried about that last 20minutes, although we managed to close out a game against an injury ravaged 14 man team, I dont think we have gotten that right yet as the Wallabies seemed to be able to pick up the tempo at this point and I must admit I did get abit nervous after all the come from behind losses/draws this season.

Great that next weekends games arnt dead rubbers, as it should give us a couple more great showings for the year. The Darkness is going to want to get over us for that consecutive wins record but like the Wallaby Bok game, we almost had them away but couldnt go all the way.

After the way the AB's dismantled the Pumas at home, they'll be stinging and really amped to atone for their poor showing. Arg vs Oz is going to be just as huge and I will be staying up for this one!

Oh and before I forget, here you go Penguin, meet Beanber, he'll be your avatar for the month. You're welcome: :p
