More gems from Spiro:

"A victory tonight would rank with the exhilarating NSW win over the 1937 Springboks at the SCG, which Evan Whitton described as 'the greatest day in Australian rugby''." I was talking to a bloke in the pub this afternoon and he reckoned it would rank with Queensland's 12-11 win over New South Wales in 1883. Each of us of course will choose particular matches to benchmark against.

"New Zealand . . . almost invariably get into double figures on the scoreboard." Who would have thought?

"When the Wallabies defeated the All Blacks in 2010 it was their first victory over the old foes in 846 days." 846 days, eh? That's worth filing in the old memory bank for a rugby trivia night.

Attention to detail. That's something aspiring young journos should focus on. Not that there's likely to be jobs for them.

I like how Tom Waterhouse blinks on a capital letter.

Absolutely fu*king totally over just standing there and letting them do the Haka - absolute bullshit ruling from the IRB that teams have to meekly stand back and accommodate their war dance - get in their bloody faces and let them know we'll accommodate them.
