We're playing Melbourne away first up.

Geez, we better not be the first team to lose this mob.

I hate losing to Melbourne in anything.

Home team is listed first so the Tahs travel to land of the Mexicans first up.

I reckon that unless the SA teams apart from the Bulls/Stormers increase their competitiveness, what we'll probably see is the Bulls/Stormers dominate the SA conference, finishing with really high points overall. That will mean those SA teams will probably get home finals which is crucial.

Don't be so sure. The Bulls and WP are not exactly dominating in the Currie Cup at the mo.

The Lions and Cheetahs are playing fantastic rugby. These teams battle with travel. They know how to beat the other locals though.

The Bulls and Stormers will be powerful when they have their full rosters, but the Sharks will have better 10's next year and a very, very good pack. The Cheetahs are good for a couple of wins and if the Lions keep gettign better they could beat one of the big 3. John Mitchell is doing some fantastic work.

SA derbies are scary things.

Would I be correct in saying that if every team played every other team instead of missing 2 games, the competition would only take 2 more weeks. Or would there have to be mroe byes and it would take longer?

Because realistically I'd like to see 2 more weeks of rugby, I understand next year because of the WC, but after that I dont see why you would'nt?

Is it because it would interfere too much with NPC and Currie Cup? I seem to recall that there was some pretty significant resistance to lengthening the comp to what it will be next year and that was the reason why.

The Lions only a third of the personel available to John Mitchell in the franchise. Pumas doing well also with their budget and the Leopards maybe wooden spoon in the Premier CC league but their U21s in the top three and their U19s have just beaten the only andefeated WP team on Newlands on the weekend. You can bet Mitchell will build his new franchise into something special, he have all the raw material to do this. Cheetahs = Cheetahs + Griquas, one in third the other in six spot and if Naka can make a 1+1=3 with that lot, they wont be easy beats. Pretty sure this conferense home and away schedule will fit the likes of the Cheetahs and Lions much better. The Sharks , well look at the CC log at the moment.

Interesting to see that every Rebels home game is on a Friday night. Probably not a bad move trying to establish that, especially given most Friday night AFL matches are over the other side of the city at Etihad. I think it will give some good scope to get some decent marketing push behind it as a bit of a Friday night destination, especially with the long daylight and warm weather early in the season.

The Waratahs miss the Stormers and Hurricanes, but on the other hand would have preferred to play the Bulls and Crusaders at home - not away.

The Tahs bean counters will not be happy because the Cheetahs and Lions are not big crowd pullers and the Highlanders would be the least popular of the 5 Kiwi teams. The Chiefs would be the biggest crowd puller of non-Oz teams.

There's a longer six team finals series this time as well over a three week period.

(Not forgeting the 3 week international window between the end of the comp and the finals to finish in August)

I think the brumbies will be pretty happy with their draw. Missing out on playing the bulls will be huge (tho I think they’ll start to decline soon) and the blues, who I think will be the most dangerous NZ this year if they can find a little consistency.

Also getting the stormers at home, the sharks away but not at altitude and the cheetahs.

Faark! I was really looking forward to the Melbourne trip. First game up, new stadium, and I'll be in Scotland.

You blokes have got to get a G&GR tour going.

Brumbies first opening round home game since 2005...

And they avoid playing the Bulls during the regular season...

Pretty good result...
