Paarl I tole you to go home early. Now you have to go home with your tail between your legs :)

Rusty - where do you watch the games? Online?
Boet ja it wasnt if WP havent tried, we nearly got a three out of three, the U19s and U21s have knocked your lot over and WP will know they have to play for 80 minutes. They dominate the first 30 minutes , then Jean got yellowed just after the break and they had to play catch up from then on. nearly got it.

Ashley Johnson had been great for the Tin Ears.

Good to see the Brutes all happy, they still have to get past Griquas in Kimberley. Griquas more then often their sort of bogey side, so still a fair bit of rugby to be played in the last round.

Myself will love a WP vs Brute final, more then ever , on Newlands.

SARugbys Round 13 Review
ABSA CURRIE CUP REVIEW – WEEK 13 Posted: 3 October 2010

The Vodacom Blue Bulls and the Vodacom Free State Cheetahs kept their chances of hosting an Absa Currie Cup semifinal alive after both sides secured thrilling victories this weekend.
The defending champions recorded a stunning 36-32 victory over Vodacom Western Province at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday while the Bloemfontein side notched up their ninth victory of the 2010 competition following their 43-37 win over the Xerox Lions at Vodacom Park.

The victories for the Vodacom Blue Bulls and the Vodacom Free State Cheetahs means that both sides ended week 13 in joint third position on the Premier Division log with 42 points. They are still two points behind Province who salvaged a bonus point for losing within seven points of the Pretoria side.

Vodacom WP can deny the Pretoria and Bloemfontein sides the chance of hosting a semifinal if they defeat the log-leading The Sharks at Newlands on Saturday. Springbok stars Gio Aplon and Juan de Jongh scored tries for Province while Willem de Waal kicked six penalties and two conversions. Their efforts though were not enough to tame the defending champions from securing their ninth victory of the season.

De Waal (183) stretched his lead at the top of the 2010 Absa Currie Cup Premier Division leading points’ scorer’s table while the Vodacom Blue Bulls flyhalf Jacques-Louis Potgieter (171) moved in to second place after kicking four penalties and three conversions.

Flanker Okkie Kruger, centre Stefan Watermeyer and Springbok fullback Zane Kirchner added tries for the Vodacom Blue Bulls while former SA fullback Jaco van der Westhuyzen kicked the game’s only drop goal.

In Bloemfontein the Vodacom Free State Cheetahs moved a step further to host an Absa Currie Cup semifinal after they achieved maximum points from their clash against the Xerox Lions (43-37).

The hosts scored six tries which were added by Absa Man of the Match Ashley Johnson (2), Hennie Daniller, Adriaan Strauss, WP Nel and Phillip Snyman. Louis Strydom kicked two penalties and two conversions while Meyer Bosman added one penalty.

The Xerox Lions achieved two bonus points – for scoring four tries, and for losing within seven points of the Vodacom Free State Cheetahs. The Johannesburg side’s five-pointers were added by Burton Francis, Joshua Strauss, Edgar Marutlulle and Michael Killian. Former SA Under-20 flyhalf Elton Jantjies kicked four conversions and three penalties for the Xerox Lions.

The Xerox Lions will now have to hope that the Platinum Leopards upset the Vodacom Free State Cheetahs or the GWK Griquas defeat the Vodacom Blue Bulls in Kimberley if the Johannesburg side are to mathematically still qualify for the semifinals.

The Sharks will host the other Absa Currie Cup Premier Division semifinal after they outclassed the Platinum Leopards (63-6) at The Absa Stadium Durban on Friday evening. Flanker Keegan Daniel, prop Jannie du Plessis and winger Odwa Ndungane each scored a brace of tries while fullback Louis Ludik, winger Lwazi Mvovo and prop Eugene van Staden were the other try-scorers for the hosts.

Former Springbok flyhalf André Pretorius kicked six conversions while former SA Under-20 fullback Patrick Lambie converted three tries.

Clayton Durand kicked two penalties for the Platinum Leopards who are the only side in the Absa Currie Cup who has not recorded a victory in the 2010 competition.

GWK Griquas winger Bjorn Basson equalled the Absa Currie Cup try-scoring record (19) held by former Western Province wing Carel du Plessis and former Leopards wing Colin Lloyd.

The Springbok flyer was named the Absa Currie Cup Player of the Month for September on Thursday and continued his try-scoring run in the 2010 competition after he added two tries during his side’s 61-31 victory over the Barloworld Toyota Pumas.

The GWK Griquas achieved maximum points from this game but were eliminated from the Absa Currie Cup semifinals race after the Vodacom Blue Bulls and the Vodacom Free State secured victories this weekend.

The Kimberley side is currently in sixth position on the log with 36 points and is six points behind the fourth-placed Vodacom Blue Bulls.

While Basson added a brace, Barry Geel, Naas Olivier, Riaan Viljoen, Rocco Jansen, Ryno Barnes, Sarel Pretorius and Wesley Wilkins were the other try-scorers for the GWK Griquas. Olivier kicked seven conversions while Rudi Vogt converted one try.

The Barloworld Toyota Pumas who conceded 61 points still managed to secure a bonus point for scoring five tries. Corné Steenkamp (2), Elgar Watts, Hendrik van der Nest and Shaun Venter were the try-scorers for the hosts. Watts kicked two conversions while Ricardo Croy added one conversion.

Meanwhile Vodacom Western Province and The Sharks are currently on 46 points and are in joint second position on the Group A log after both sides secured victories in the Absa Currie Cup Under-21 Championship this weekend.

The Cape side captained by former SA Under-20 scrumhalf Louis Schreuder secured a thrilling 42-38 victory over the Vodacom Blue Bulls at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday. The Sharks outclassed the Platinum Leopards 57-27 in Durban on Friday evening.

Free State maintained their position in fourth place on the Group A log following their 53-25 victory over the Xerox Lions in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

In the Absa Currie Cup Under-19 Championship Vodacom Western Province moved in to pole position on the Group A log following their 29-8 victory over the Vodacom Blue Bulls in Pretoria on Saturday.

The Sharks maintained their third position on the log following their 34-17 win over the Platinum Leopards while Free State secured their third victory of the competition in Bloemfontein on Saturday after defeating the Xerox Lions 28-27 at Vodacom Park.

Enjoyed my Newlands visit on saturday and WP sure havent disappoint one bit. Their tight 5 got that Sharks Bok one under the belt and give the WP Bok backline front foot ball all day to almost break the line at will and Schalk show his worth for my beloved Streeptruie. Pitty we diont had a Bekker Burger show but Schalkie sure as hell fling his body all over the place. The U21s also beat the high rated Shark lot 36-9 and look like a totally different team with Koster, van Aswegen and Engelbrecht on the wing. The U19s lost but that did not effect the CC log and both WP teams (U19 & U21) top their respective logs , add the seniors second spot and everything look bright within the structures of WP. This setting up a nice home semi for all three teams and a possible home final against the Brutes all possible. Two interesting weeks to go, first the Tin Ears this weekend.

Patick Lambie will be the next Ruan Pienaar. A great player but nobody knows where to play him and eventually his game suffers. You read it here first.

So home final for Province once we dispatch flower Fountains this weekend??

There. I said it. No need to watch the next three games.
You got that one wrong. Its WPs year but lets not get ahead here, first have to deal with the Tin Ears who have a habit of winning away semi finals and you lot just make sure to clupper the Sharks. I promise you lot we'll soften them up.

Pretty glad to see our Energade Bunny, Fourie can play this weekend.

So I just read Joubert will get the final over Kaplan who missed out on the Semi's. Very interesting.

They're saving Kaplan up for the Tah and Wallaby games next year.
Nah he take a back seat now and give the next SA ref generation a change in our own CC competition. Time you get your own refs going, sick and tired to get NH refs due to a lack of Kiwi & Aussie quality refs.

Ons sal maar sien? Moet eers daar uitkom. Newlands deserve the final, best supported Stadium throughout the season in S14 and CC rugby, third oldest rugby Stadium, rugby holy ground.

Ok then. BulSePoesklap at Newlands.

If there is one thing Province does, and does exceedingly well, it is to choke under the mantle of expectation. I look forward to their continuation of a fine tradition of losing the big game when it counts most.

From memory Kaplan's got a couple of tests during the NH tour.
I don't think any involve the WBs, so it's all good :)

Boet ja , you and Blou are pretty confident, mooi so, myself have enough to worry about in what the Tin Ears brings to the CC table, we first have to come pass this lot and some interesting stats of the last couple of years regarding this lot:

looked at “finals rugby” (semi-finals and finals) over the past five seasons (2005 – 2009). It makes for interesting reading. In this time:

1. The Cheetahs have made the semi-finals 5 times, advancing to the final on 4 occasions and winning the Cup 3 times (once shared).

2. The Bulls have also made the semi-finals 5 times and advanced to the finals on 4 occasions, winning the Cup twice (once shared).

3. The Sharks have appeared in 4 semi-finals during this period, only advancing on 1 occasion. They did however win the Cup on that occasion.

4. WP has played in 3 semi-finals in this period, but has not been able to advance to the final. The last time WP appeared in the Currie Cup finals were in 2001.

The head-to-head count for “finals rugby” in this period is even more interesting:

1. Cheetahs vs Bulls: They’ve met each other on 5 occasions from 2005 to 2009 in either a semi-final or final. Both teams have won twice and one game was drawn. The dramatic 28 all draw of the 2006 final. One might argue that the Bulls are leading this little battle as these two teams also contested the 2004 final, which the Bulls won. But, in terms of the 2010 log, a game between these two sides will be played in Bloem. Of the six games played since 2004, two have taken place in Bloem and neither was won by the Bulls.

2. Cheetahs vs Sharks: These two sides have met each other twice in this period. The score is 2 – 0 for the Cheetahs.

3. Cheetahs vs WP: These two sides have met once in this period. The Cheetahs winning that game.

4. Bulls vs Sharks: The Sharks won the 2008 final, the only “final’s game” between these two sides in this period.

5. Bulls vs WP: These two historical powerhouses of SA rugby have met twice since 2005, both games have been won by the Bulls.

6. Sharks and WP have not met each other in a final or semi-final between 2005 and 2009.

If you take all this into account and you look at the possible semi-final games, history would suggest that the Cheetahs should win the 2010 ABSA Currie Cup.

However myself have enough believe in my WeePee team that showed enough growth this year in S14 rugby to go all the way specially if it come to Newlands. Last year was a final minute heart break not going to happen again.

Mossie is out for the season, Jean will probably go to 13, Muskiet to wing and Jantjes to 15.

Still a pitty we cant provide a Burger Bekker show in the finals, suppose a Burger show just have to do the trick!
