Terry Doyle, the best ever rugby administrator, the man who invented Super Rugby, the man who oversaw the halcyon days of QLD Rugby, the only man who could get the best out of Knuckles Connolly, the man who's departure from the QRU coincided with the very obvious decline of the performance of the Reds and indeed the QRU, is the new GM of Wests Bulldogs (the club of Barnes, McMeniman, Tasi Luafutu, Scott Higginbottham, possibly Will Genia). Although they won't be Wests Bulldogs has he has signed them a new title sponsor (just forget who they are).

This is big news for Rugby in QLD and it will be interesting to see how he interacts with the QRU on club issues.

looks good for Wests.

dont forget former Qld hooker Geoff Abram (who played his 2 games for the reds as a reserve openside flanker and was last seen wearing the 13 jersey for Wests prior to injury mid-last season).

yeah but I think the phrase 'affiliated with' is being used as he won't play for them and straight after the S14 season he heads to Japan. But they'll use him for the odd promotional purpose.

FOS, yeah good point. Is he still around next year?

Daniel Braid is heading to Japan straight after the 2009 S14 season?

i was under the impression he had a 1year contract with a option for a 2nd..

yeah but the whole premise of his signing was his ability to piss off and earn more money once the S14 season was over.

i suppose that probably will be the case if he doesnt exercise the 2nd year option..

but i suppose it would also be wise for the QRU to allow Braid to go play in Japan during the S14 offseason just as long as he is back for Rd1 Super14 2010.

His happy because he has earned a nice little superannuation and the Reds are happy because they get a high class player.

THE QRU should overcome teething problems to announce its new State Cup later this month. The cup will be played pre-Premier season and feature 16 teams - eight Brisbane clubs, two from the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Logan, Townsville, Cairns, Rockhampton and Darling Downs. A few of the Brisbane clubs aren't happy about having to travel and play on the one day. But the cup is vital for the future of the code in Queensland.

Interesting news, Mark Oberhardt is usually pretty spot on when it comes to things related to the QRU, pretty sure he has some friends high up in the organisation.

this is also interesting!

Rugby on the Darling Downs is looking ahead to the inclusion of our side in the Premier Grade Brisbane Competition in 2011. To facilitate this, Downs Rugby Limited will be formed during 2009.

about time as well, there is more then enough depth in toowoomba to justify there own team, Toowoomba Grammar and Downlands College pour out a steady stream of quality rugby players with a limited avenue for career progression.

that is great news. Like you suggest, a rich vein of rugby pedigree runs up there.

There's talk of Logan coming in too aint there? And a NQ team, is it Cairns or Townsville?

townsville, the QRU have actually agreed to accept them for the 2010 season, provided things look sound financially

yes noddy, logan are also trying to get into the Premier Grade

Logan
On the Premiers front, the Club has been included in the new State Cup competition which commences in mid February 2009. This will provide the Firsts with the opportunity to compete against the present Premier sides, in preparation for our eventual elevation to that competition, hopefully, in the year following. We are excited by the prospect of obtaining membership of the Premier competition in 2010. However, and I have previously spoken to this topic at the Senior?s Presentation Night, the focus of the QRU in relation to Premiers is now on participation numbers, rather than Club facilities.
http://logancity.rugbynet.com.au/default.asp?id=139265

bascially the QRU want more number at the club for elegibility into the Premier Grade, rather then there previous focus on the club facilities. On that note, Logan Rugby is moving to new grounds at Griffith University in 2011.

Townsivlle
The Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) Board has given provisional approval to Townsville entering the Queensland Premier Rugby competition in 2010.

The Townsville and District Rugby Union (TDRU) had been pressing hard for entry to the competition to be fast-tracked to next season, however the QRU Board opted for definite entry in 2010, provided the Investec Super 14 competition was expanded as planned and appropriate ARU funding was available.

Redlands
THE CLUB HAS BEEN PROMOTED TO DIVISION 1, 1ST GRADE FOR THE 2009 SEASON.

so in 2010 we could see a new Townsville, Darling Downs and Logan side in the premier grade competition.

I know Redlands also have strong endeavours to join premier grade as well, there juniors population is booming.

State Cup

(Home teams first)

Round 1:

Sat 21 Feb: Townsville DRU v GPS

ROUND 2

Sat 28 Feb: Cairns DRU v GPS

ROUND 3:

Sat 7 March: Rockhampton DRU v GPS

No wonder GPS are pissed off. No home games. All up NQ and I believe its up and back in the one day. That's harsh.
