I’d say a good bit of everything you mentioned, and a lot of dissatisfaction from many old boys as to the direction the Shore rugby program was headed a few years ago.

Forbes Platypi v Cowra Eagles (battle of the smaller towns)
Our old mate EJ (Eddie Jones) tried that method - it went slightly pear shaped! Having said that I think Cheik is a lot less crazy than Eddie and is the best man for the job.
I think the Tahs really should go after Cheika (beg and plead!) He is obviously a quality coach, who can build a team culture, and develop a team. He is Sydney based and has an excellent understanding of how NSW rugby ticks. It is only a matter of time until he jets off the another gig somewhere...
