I think its wrong to do it to any country, not just the kiwis. If those two chose to come to Australia and then rugby became a priority, I have no problem. If we lured them over because they were rugby players I dont approve. If they already live here its a different story. I am talking about...

I dont like that the ARU is targetting Kiwis. Of all the complaints that have been made against JON, this is the most serious in my view. Fair enough anyone living in Oz who has Kiwi relatives, but not the types of player who have no link to Oz at all. Without a healthy AB team, the Wallabies...

RUGBY FEROCITY IS TAKING HUGE TOLL ON PLAYERS

They are also playing against bigger, fitter, faster and stronger blokes than play in your average subbies club Nick. The injuries at a professional level are more serious and more regular than at amateur level.

RUGBY FEROCITY IS TAKING HUGE TOLL ON PLAYERS

The definition of injury is relevant. I can believe that after a test match 1 in 3-4 players would need treatment. That is 6-7 in a squad of 22. Since professionalism, players' weight and strength has increased but bodies dont necessarily become more resilient. I guess it makes sense that if the...

If Aussie Rugby had fairdinkum state of origin, select your states 22

Cordingley played for Warringah, not Manly. Giteau played his first senior rugby in Canberra. Cross played his first senior rugby in WA bearing in mind he signed with Easts out of school and then with the Force from Easts. Mortlock isnt a 12. I would play Staniforth at 12 and Mortlock at 13...

Best Article on the ELVs this year

Quote from Oregan Hoskins, president of the South African Rugby Union: Its about consistency not about a preferred set of laws. This reflects on the IRBs inconsistent roll out not on the SARU's views on whether the free kick sanctions are preferred. If everyone else was playing with the free...

I disagree and that is not the reason the SARU has given for wanting to drop those laws. The switching around can be done but isnt ideal preparation for an important tour. Its ok to do it as a one off if its part of the transition but to yo yo back and forth takes time to adjust as Matfield et...

Yes they have, but citing that in isolation like that is very misleading Thomo. What they have said is that because they will be playing the Lions without the FKAGG, they think it seems silly to switch back to them and then drop them again for the Lions tour.

I cant work out why more Kiwis from TSF havent wandered over here.

    S14 re-format

The NRL suffered when it had 20 teams or 22 teams in the 90s. Yes, we should get a fifth team, but 2010 is too early for mine without a competition at a level below which lets us see which players can handle the jump.

Nice try spectator. If its the one I am thinking of, he is from Grenfell in country NSW. Formerly a teacher at Riverview in Sydney and ex Manly first grade lock. Nickname "Tiny" Nowlan for the obvious reason that he is a monster. He is from a very good country rugby family.

    S14 re-format

I agree with fatprop. There might be the talent in the backs, and maybe the backrow, coming through, but not in the tight five and that is where all but the Waratahs, and possibly the Reds, lack. When all of our teams finish in the top half of the comp we can think about a 5th on the basis you...

    Brumbies 2009

He is big alright, just soft. The Waratahs would be better off giving a contract to the best lock in country NSW and letting Campbell get on with his post rugby life. He didnt stand out at any level I have seen him play including 2nd grade club footy.

    NSW club rugby thread

Even though they dont get close to Uni, the other sides the Shute Shield would destroy the Subbies teams with the possible exception of Penrith/Souths depending on the year. Souths have suffered sad demise. I recall a time when they were regularly pushing or featuring in the semis. The top teams...

I thought this whole section worth reproducing and the bolded parts particularly interesting. 96% of the time you take the ball into a maul you get it back. Where is the contest for possession? 80% of mauls end up on the ground - where are the injuries? A maul does have a place in rugby...
