    Tahs Vs Chiefs

New props for the chiefs as well. The flanker on the LH side should be making a nuisance of himself for the scrummie as well. He can bind further back, stick his rump out, put his legs in the way etc. You're right Lee, if the TH side screws, it gives the 8 more time. Similarly, if they use...

Openside showdown George Smith v David Pocock

Maybe when Pocock has played 100 tests, beaten the Lions, won the Bledisloe, won the Tri-nations, won a couple of S14 titles and repeatedly won every domestic award on offer we can talk about who is/was better. Until then Smith is still far, far ahead of Pocock. Pocock is in the top 2...

Openside showdown George Smith v David Pocock

I didnt think Smith was too bad against the Crusaders. Whitelock is a handy player as well. We will hear more of him in a few years. Read is getting better and better too. Pocock is a different style of 7 to Smith, but for mine, the Wallaby no. 7 jersey is Smith's for as long as he wants it. I...

Media beat up of the week: Bird playing club rugby

Agreed Blue. Ban him for 2 years at least (its far worse than drugs in my mind) and, once he has done his time, he can play.

    Tahs Vs Chiefs

Playing a chiefs team missing that many ABs and that clueless at the Fortress - bad result.

    Rolling maul dead under ELVs?

Tight jerseys are in fashion Sully. I cant see that changing. Are built in handles the answer?

South African S14 Teams are going?

What do you do when you have two rival codes (AFL and league) which have better systems for getting kids into rugby? Soccer isnt too bad either. Rugby is the worst at introducing them to and keeping kids in the game. The ARU must have a catch and release strategy.

    The Tahs 2009

Its hard to believe those blokes arent fit. They should have been training super hard since Oct/Nov.

    Rolling maul dead under ELVs?

Impossible to referee. How does the ref decide who has the ball? How does the ref decide how many steps each player can take when passing it back? That's why none of us were chosen for the ELVs group. If mauls stop, it should be a scrum to the opposition. If Neil Back isnt properly bound, it...

South African S14 Teams are going?

The Magners League plays from Sept/Oct through to April/May. Isnt that the hottest part of the year in SA? Wouldnt that mean that your Currie Cup plus plus plus would need to restructure their seasons as well so that the top tier of professional players werent playing year round? Alternatively...

    Tahs Vs Chiefs

He hasnt been dropped (yet) naza. Just paper talk. Hickey and Burgess both know that Burgess needs to tidy up his game and Hickey was talking through the papers the way all coaches do.

    Tahs Vs Chiefs

That's never the issue though Scarfman. The question is does Waugh plus Mowen, for example, beat McCaw plus Reid.

    Rolling maul dead under ELVs?

Now you are arguing in circles Thomo and you have missed Nick's point, which is a good one, that the mauls will form differently. If mauls still formed with the same regularity and with the same structure as under the old laws, you might be right that it is more dangerous. However, if there...

    The Tahs 2009

8 is a specialist position. Just because Smith can move to 8 it doesnt mean Waugh could. Waugh wouldnt have been able to handle the move to 6 the way Smith did either. I'm with naza on this one.

Eddie Jones comes out of the closet

I've never heard that insult before. What is a "wall-eyed arse"?

    The Tahs 2009

I think that is the part I disagree with Lee. When the professional era started, only the top guys were paid. As professionalism has filtered through the system, handy Sydney club players (but not world beaters) can make a decent living playing rugby in France or Italy. Its only been in the last...

    The Tahs 2009

Could they stick their head into the back of a scrum and run around the field? Yes. Could they play no. 8? Probably not. I think there is a difference between playing 8 and playing 8 well, even for an international hooker to play at club level. You lose a lineout jumper, you generally lose speed...

Except Kefu has skills and Carter can tackle.

    The Tahs 2009

McCormack was never the fittest hooker running around. Moore, TPN and Frier are not just S14 hookers, they are Wallabies who have played multiple tests and they are pretty good athletes for hookers. I wouldnt back Brendan Cannon to play No. 8 at club level or Mark Bell, Phil Kearns or Michael...

    The Tahs 2009

Sorry, I should have said that it isnt as strong as it used be. I used see a fair bit of Sydney club rugby and he would never have made it as a number 8. So has the quality of the competition decreased or has he turned into a fast, fit backrower? I am guessing that it is probably the former...
