    My Wallaby 22

Re: My Wallaby 22 I can see I'm going to enjoy your posts Langthorne. I agree re Cooper. Too flakey for mine but Deans did improve him on the EOYT and hopefully he will do so again.

Re: My Wallaby 22 Smith wins the Australian S14 player of the year for a 4th consecutive time. I dont think he is washed up just yet. http://www.rugbyheaven.com.au/news/news/smith-wins-player-of-the-year-award/2009/05/21/1242498869497.html

    S14: The Semis

I'm looking forward to the semis PB. I cant pick between the Crusaders and the Bulls with the irony being that if the Bulls do win it, I think it will be their backs that make the difference! Hurricanes to upset Chiefs and to lose the final. ie Bulls or Crusaders to win it. Mehrtens was...

    My Wallaby 22

Re: My Wallaby 22 Yes, welcome aboard Langthorne. You started well, but Waugh is no match for Smith. Ask the Kiwis and Saffers who they would prefer we picked.

Would Lote Tuqiri make your Wallaby 22?

No. When he runs, he makes good ground across field but not enough up field. He doesnt beat his opposite number on the outside because he is too slow and because he has a league habit of cutting back in. He is good defensively, but not quick enough to run down anyone Mortlock lets through. He...

    Wallaby Squad - official

Caldwell has played well, but I reckon Deans would want to see him being more dominant in contact. If you watch him closely, he goes to ground very quickly as a ball carrier, rarely getting a drive on over the top of defenders and is a passive rather than aggressive tackler as well. There is no...

    My Wallaby 22

Re: Stuff it I'm going early My Wallaby 22 Welcome aboard Reddy. Why is everyone picking Tuqiri? I would switch Mitchell with Turner who is equally exciting in attack. Mitchell is too flakey in defence but can be dangerous running at tiring defenders towards the end of games. 15. O'Connor...

    SANZAR/Super rugby future format

I dont think they are stupid enough to dilute their product by expanding it in a contracting global economy. One more team is a possibility but 4-6 more is remote. Maybe they will drop the additional team and start it later but move to a 5 or 6 team finals series. That is the best answer isnt it?

    My Wallaby 22

Re: Stuff it I'm going early My Wallaby 22 Shepherdson over Baxter? Interesting decision. Regardless of his form, Elsom shouldnt be picked until he has played in Australia. I'm happy for that to be a few club games (at least a month's worth) but he should never be picked straight into a...

    Lions Tour Thread

Blue I live up hear so I will have a crack. Hooker - I think it has to be Flannery with Mears Left Right Out. He is even more of a hobbit than Frier. Lock - I reckon Nathan Hines is the Man. If he plays, he will confront Bakkies at the ruck and maul and leave O'Connell to deal to Matfield...

    The Leaguies take Paris

I wouldnt get too excited just yet. Gasnier is closest to the mark when he says he is still on his L plates. I dont know if you noticed Rooney standing around like a third wheel at the rucks in one of those vids. He obviously still doesnt know what happens at the breakdown. Are they all keeping...

    British and Irish Lions

Welcome back Lee. To be honest, I dont think there is a lot of balance in the squad. Very surprised to see Blair and Ryan Jones miss out. Very surprised to see Powell, Sheridan, Vickery and Shaw selected. I'm glad Hines was picked even though he missed much of the 6N through injury. I would...

Big Al looking overseas - ARU says walk

I have been very critical of Baxter in the past. However he has become a decent test tighthead prop and we dont have many of those. I cant remember what it was, but there was something odd about that scrum and it was mentioned at the time as the reason for the pushover. Regardless, he is our...

Big Al looking overseas - ARU says walk

On that analysis, who should he be behind? Giteau the wunderkind? Possibly. Who else? Smith is, imo, the best or second best player in the world in his position, we dont have many at that level. However there is quality back up for him in Pocock and, if necessary, Waugh. Mortlock should be on a...

    Reds V Lions

As long as he is doing tight work well, I dont mind if it takes him a few weeks to become the ball running marauder again. Not many players hit form straightaway even in club rugby. He is expected to be one of the best players for the Reds, give him a few weeks. Maybe he just needs someone to...
