Union or League - what did you start with?

Growing up, from when I was just running, we would go to watch the local rugby team play on saturday afternoons. I "played" "league" on the side of the field while the local team played from when I was tiny. I say league because it was probably less than 10 of us playing and you'd get tackled...

    Waratahs 2012

Foley might not be too impressed with Vicks publicly giving his support to Elsom.

Things that get up my nose about rugby these days

That is what many of the grievances posted are derived from although no one else has acknowledged it. My view is that professional rugby took us down a path which was inevitable and has consequences, some of which, weren't anticipated and some of which have yet to play out. The commercial and...

    Rugby Moment of The Year....

Cat_A - thanks for posting. It puts our own posts in context. It's a world cup year, so my "rugby moments" gravitate to that as it is, whether we like it or not, the focus of international teams on a four year cycle... For me, it was the ABs winning the RWC. As I mentioned at the time, there...

    Freakonomics: home-field advantage

What we need is a formulaic relationship between supporter decibels and referee decision making. The mathematicians are the crazy prophets on the hill!

Things that get up my nose about rugby these days

I think there's a fair bit of grumpy old menitis (GOM) in this thread. No one complained about Ben Tune's aeroplane celebration back in the day.

    Waratahs 2012

I know its being pedantic, but if you don't mean Horan and Campese great, that suggests you don't mean great at all. What other kind of great player is there? Carter is adequate and not much more. He's suited the Tahs limited game plan over the last few years. Whether he continues to do so...

    Aussies abroad 2011-12

That makes sense. Players from the Pacific Island nations aren't considered foreign in the French leagues are they?

Rugby League players who could have/could make the switch

How does he "tackle the ball"? And why don't you put up a clip to show us otherwise I fear this thread will die a quick death.

You're not trying hard enough. ZG may be trying a bit too hard.

    New name for Tri-Nations competition

There'll be some upsets in Beunos Aries and not, I predict, just when the Wallabies win there.

    Rougeries's eye gouge

Rougerie should be cited by the independent commissioner or some other IRB monkey and banned big time. That is filthy.

    2011 Spring Tour

12 on 12 doesn't even happen on most first phase ball. The flankers will cover the 10 and the 10 will slide onto the 12 to allow those outside to cover the fullback joining the line. Defending in your 22 they may go man on man.

    2011 Spring Tour

We lost games because we couldn't score tries. The ball the backs got wasn't always great, but they needed to use it better nevertheless. The centres were part of that problem. Both McCabe and Fainga'a can fit within an attacking game plan but not as they have been used for the Wallabies. If...

    Brad Thorn

Rugby league premiership winner (multiple), State of Origin winner (multiple), rugby league test match winner (maybe titles in there), Super rugby winner (multiple), Rugby World Cup winner. And he carries himself with professionalism and dignity in whatever he does. Respect.

    Congratulations NZ

Well done ABs. I was cheering you. There are some truly magnificent rugby men in that AB squad and a World Cup winners medal is a worthy addition to their cabinet. Respect.

    On Reds Cards ................................

What about if refs can only ever give 10 mins but during that 10mins the video ref can decide whether its red or not? It does add to the uncertainty but might produce fairer results.

    Congrats All Blacks!

Wales might disagree with this. We were deservedly beaten by Ireland, almost by the Boks and then by the ABs.
