2012 S15 All things Referee thread

Wouldn't that reflect more on the captains' decisions than him? Do you think he's being too strict or something? I reckon he's been alright in most aspects (and in the top 3 refs so far). Probably too strict on the "off your feet" calls, but I wouldn't be surprised if that is encouraged...

    Ahh, sorry.

He said he made a mistake and took it back on page 1. What is this?

2012 S15 All things Referee thread

There was a few in week one, all discussed in detail here: http://www.sanzarrugby.com/superrugby/news/2012-super-rugby-judicial-wrap-round-one/ And here is the Strauss incident from week one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpIKeCr0KX4

    Byrnes gets 10 Weeks

If an eye gouge didn't occur, then some of the evidence must be dodgy. Byrnes and the Rebels should call the Tahs out on it. But if an eye gouge did occur, the ban seems reasonable. The IRB want to get this stuff out of the game.

    Roll Away. Yeah, right!

I don't know which cases we are referring to, but as a general statement. Most of the time a player is penalized for not rolling away, it is because he has fallen onto the opposition side of the tackle to prevent quick ball. (a great example was Mark Lawrence giving a yellow card to a Cheetah's...

    Byrnes gets 10 Weeks

http://www.sanzarrugby.com/superrugby/news/super-rugby-2012-judicial-adam-byrnes-banned-for-ten-weeks/ Tough position for SANZAR, a guilty eye-gouging verdict always carries a harsh penalty. There isn't much room for middle ground.

    Rugby TV Shows

I enjoy the show. I suppose don't expect much from it, if I want in-depth discussion of super rugby I'll listen to G&GR podcasts ;) They could improve the show in areas (like dropping the silly games), and probably should reach out to fans for more ideas. But I can live with the current...

    The Tom Carter incident

If there was a stat for getting under the opposition's skin, he would win hands down on recent form. I reckon we should give him a go against NZ on that basis, not much else is working for us.

    Rebels v Waratahs Round 2 - 2012R02 - Dunlop Shield III

Nope, I don't think I'm wrong here. A referee would get in trouble if they awarded a penalty try and didn't give a card with it. Also, cases where a ref gives a penalty try but no card are an extreme minority.

    Rebels v Waratahs Round 2 - 2012R02 - Dunlop Shield III

You have pretty much got to give a card if you give penalty try.

    Rebels v Waratahs Round 2 - 2012R02 - Dunlop Shield III

Congrats to Tom Carter, close to a MOM performance.

    Rebels v Waratahs Round 2 - 2012R02 - Dunlop Shield III

Collapsing the maul was the penalty try I think.

    Rebels v Waratahs Round 2 - 2012R02 - Dunlop Shield III

Plays of the week: At 60mins Tom Carter is standing next to the ref and Bryce blows the whistle loudly causing him to cover his ears. Hard to explain was funny watching his reaction though.

    Rebels v Waratahs Round 2 - 2012R02 - Dunlop Shield III

Bryce has done well with scrum calls in the first half.

    2012 S15: Scrum Changes

Yea, the whole idea of saying "pause" is getting silly really. May as well just "pause" between touch and set. I like this one, halfbacks harassing each other is just creating a huge mess at the back of the scrum. And that nonsense they do in France where they kick it out of the halfbacks...

    Reds V Force Round 2 2012R02

Nah I didn't tip them this week. I only found out there was a warning by accidently clicking them. As much as I love the Force, I think Mike Harris will be the difference this week. There is always a chance the Reds will lose concentration being too confident or something. But that's...

    Too many penalty goals

Looking back at round 1 tries, it doesn't seem like (the lack of them) is anything to raise an alarm about.

LMAO if you try to tip Force on superbru you get a "warning" message.
