Given Goosen's favourable CC performances, he'd have to have the edge over Ebersohn for the 10 jersey correct?
  3. James Buchanan

    Western Force 2012

From a bit of googling, it sounds like he was playing in NRL feeder clubs for a while with no success. References to Cronulla, Cowboy, Tigers and a run in NZ Maori. No news from ~2010, then he appeared to have bobbed up in WA playing for west subiaco. So, it looks like hes probably early 20s...

Wikipedia thinks so. Edit: Hm, may have misunderstood the question. It certainly would fit with visual inspection.

Not if he isn't in the announced 35.

    Sam Lane back to Aus

As an aside from the JP Du Plessis conversation, I thought I'd point out something which makes this story a little odd. If Sam does eventually sign with the Rebels, he will undoubtably be a talking point in these parts as down here we associate the name with Sam Lane. What makes this even...

    Rebels 2012

To be fair, he didn't do himself any favours by jumping at Snorky like he did. I concur with the hopes that he will knuckle down and apply himself. Hopefully, the absence of success for him in recent year will demonstrate to him that he cannot succeed on talent alone. I can certainly...

    Waratahs 2012

Bit of a case of "anyone but Mumm" eh?
  9. James Buchanan

    Rebels 2012

I'm not particularly fussed to hear that myself. He would have been a short term investment only and inevitably would have delayed the progression of Jarrod Saffy and Luke Jones. I'd only really have been interested in him if it were to replace Tom Chamberlain, as an import for another...

    Sam Lane back to Aus

I'm a big believer that different support structures work for different people. Sounds like that might have been what he needed. If he goes on to greater things, inevitably there will be thoughts of 'the one that got away' but he probably wouldn't have been able to get there without the right...

As much as I would love to see Fatcat get the gig, will he be up and running by the time the S15 starts next year?

    Sam Lane back to Aus

Glad to hear he's making a good fist of things back in SA. :thumb Is a pity things didn't work out over here, but hopefully for him he finds success the SA program.

Mascot War (Not the suburb.... unfortunately)

What does the reference to 'the suburb' in the thread's title mean?

    Sam Lane back to Aus

Also, after doing a bit of google research on the kid, he sounds like a good get. A bit more of a conservative, game controlling, kicking and passing 5/8th. Would love to see him at the Rebels.
  15. James Buchanan

    Sam Lane back to Aus

It did note that he is joining the Rugby Academy, which would imply that he does not have a senior or EPS contract. The noise regarding the Rebels would just be that he has been talking with them about a potential contract down the road. Cips will be gone next year. JOC (James O'Connor) has expressed that he...

I could have sworn that was Nick Phipps.

Ultimately, both players have been looked at in depth by a couple of franchises and let go from both. Its sad, but it happens.

Sounds like a great idea... wish someone else had thought of it earlier.... :fishing

    Rebels 2012

I agree with your assessment Lee. The big loss is Somerville. If they could have gotten one more year out of the old warhorse, it would have been significant. However, as you have alluded to it seems like they are recruiting for the future now, rather than the makeshift team they put together...

    Rebels 2012

Overall, I am happy with where the Rebels are at this year with recruitment. Given the situation that was inevitable in 2010, they have done a great job in starting to forge the team into where they want to be. Obviously, there's the big name pick ups in JOC (James O'Connor) and KB (Kurtley Beale), but I am equally excited...
