Why not allow SBHS to be the Combined High Schools team? That could make them competitive, and also give good rugby kids in the CHS system an opportunity.

Based Based on this we have the best player development in the world.

That makes the current selection philosophy of narrowing the player pool at 14 years old seem even more ridiculous!!! It isn't like they are going to have a kid turn up from completely outside of the rugby (or league) system. How many kids actually start playing rugby at 14? My guess is none...

Competition for spots all the way through at the strong schools makes them stronger at the pointy end. Kids in Joeys As, B's, C's underage teams have to do a fair bit of extra stuff away from school to stay in those teams. The kids that pop out at the end have to be in a better spot than being a...

If RA and club rugby weren't fighting (endless squabbles and mistrust is rugby's biggest issue), then the money goes into Shute Shield and makes that into a strong competition that keeps old players in there to teach and grow the young ones.

The same thing was happening leading up to the 1991 and 1999 world cup wins. Australian Rugby isn't weak because GPS rugby is strong. Although I think the schools could be spending the money more wisely - I would have thought building a great structure to attract good "fee paying" kids is a...

I unsuccessfully tried to decipher the rankings calculations (world ranking calculator link). From my basic estimates if Georgia win on Saturday they may jump us, especially if they win by 15, Can someone that is good at maths have a look at this?

The player pool has shrunk due to participation levels over the years. However, the pool is further reduced through counterproductive policies and structures such as: 1. The PONI system that picks the future too early and discourages kids outside of the system and reduces competition. 2...

GPS schools were rolling out 4th and 5th XVs 30+ years. The same would happen again.

Are you saying this because the Tonga boys will be added into the PONI squad? Haha

Is this a list of kids kids that are playing in the carnival? I would be very surprised if Joeys kids were even able to trial for CIS.

I was concerned the sarcasm was too subtle, but it seems not. Well spotted.

I can't believe all the negative comments. I think we all need enjoy the next few years and not ruin this period with expectations. In 10-15 years we will look back on this time fondly as it was the last time we could still compete with a top 10 Test nation.

Given the private school bias through PONI, NSW Schoolboys and the pathways system, why would kids in the public system put themselves through the frustration?

    NSW AAGPS 2024

What does PONI hope to achieve? Doesn't it just exacerbate the existing bias towards early developers?

Hard to argue with that, I stand corrected!! Someone needs to let Joeys know as well as as he is going to yr12 classes, sleeping in the year 12 dorms and sitting the HSC in a few months.
