2015 ARU 7s Age Championships and Commonwealth Youth Games

Correct me if I am wrong but NSW rugby seasons starts in the second term and finishes with the Schoolboy Nationals early July and I am sure that they would have planed the camps around the NSW 7's training squad as they are in the majority.

2015 ARU 7s Age Championships and Commonwealth Youth Games

It is as both the boys stood a good chance of making the team, however IMO the school may have allowed them to participate as the training would have benefitted the boys preseason fitness and defence skills without giving thought to the CYG selection. Raw deal though. Brad Wilkin made Aus 7's...

They played for Qld in the 7's National Champs not the school and were picked on the back of that.

Granted probably a little harsh looking at it that way but for the boys that don't know whether they will make it into the Aus Schoolboys team and are not on a scholarship you'd have to grab the opportunity of representing your country at the Commonwealth games that only comes around every 4...

So the GPS competition starts 18 July the training starts February with 4 sessions a week. By the start of term 2 the boys are doing 6 training sessions a week (3 mornings - 5:30 - 7:30 3 afternoon - 15:30 - 17:30) with various pre season games and a rugby tour and you say falling behind...

I believe Liam Moseley (NC) has also withdrawn and the 3 BBC boys still in as they only miss 1 GPS game with the last being a bye. How many NSW, ACT and VIC are attending?

Heard from friend Dylan Riley from TSS is going, cannot confirm though and not sure about the BBC boys but if they are on Rugby Scholarships it may be difficult to let potentially 3 backline players miss 2 games. I'm sure it would depend on the Coach and or the Director of Rugby.

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

9 rounds in GPS Qld I know it's not the best method but the outcome is good in that the boys operate as a team spending time together at school as well, builds a comeraderie and great team spirit.

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

The schools try to encourage participation in all sports but even if a kid is playing rugby for a club and the school, in Qld certainly, the clubs play during the second term and the school plays in the 3rd term, this makes for a long season especially in the later years with hard rugby. In my...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

In the end it is the quality of the coaching at the base level we should focus on whether it be private schooling where expert coaching, physio and ice baths after the games are the norm or the club training where volunteer Dads or retired players are coaching, we all strive to get the best for...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

Totally disagree, Schools promote participation. The School my son attends has 24 rugby teams from u11 to opens, all aspiring to wear the school 1st XV jersey someday or make a GPS or Qld School Boy side. This plays a huge part in the Aus Rugby Union feeder mechanism, the problem lies in the...

I get what you are saying, however if it were selection for National School Boys u16 Championship (ended 2013) the numbers would be different. I think a lot of the GPS schools u16 players have not participated in the JGC.

IMO the GPS Schools (not sure of the others) have a very structured approach to coaching as opposed to the run-of-the-mill volunteer Dad coaching at the local club. I've had bad experiences where the coach would be swearing at the 12-13 year old kids. I am fortunate enough to have my son in a...
