Wallabies Year in Review - John O'Neill

Isn't that half his job, anyway?

I like the way Slipper and Robinson's strengths work together, too. Slipper is turning into a good tight runner, and has some on ball skills too, while Robinson has the same on ball skills with a looser, linking role. Good combination. The sad thing is the Ben Alexander is probably the pick...

Benn Robinson is another good example of a front rower with a versatile CV, he does a lot of work on the ball at the breakdown. I thought the Welsh really missed J Davies as well: Scott Williams was fine without being outstanding. Davies provides a good foil for the crashabash Jaimie Roberts.

    Rugby - not set pieces

I think if his enormous frame had had room he would've finished what his younger brother started (sending Ashton's face to the stone age) last year.

TOCC's probably spot on, all the Cantebury jerseys have that piping. It's like the man-bra grip shit they had on a few team's jerseys a while back.

Yeah, the pick and go has become a red zone only tactic. It's the quickest ball possible; a quick pick and go when the opposition around the ruck fringes is still turning around from the previous charge is so effective.

IF Barnes and O'Connor are the 12/10 combination, this would be great too; they both have good tackling styles for the inside backs that neutralise crash ball merchants like Roberts. On a different note, I was happy to see Mortlock running good crash ball lines in the Barbars game. Could be a...

    Brumbies 2012

Great balance. Alexander is a fine athlete in the loose, Moore is a tight play master and with the right training Palmer can become a threat in the tight. Props are supposed to scrum, you say? Well excuuuuuse me. Seriously though that front row can dance with the best in Superugby at scrum...

I'd back Barnes, if he's leading the defensive line. Barnes is a smart defender; it doesn't take a genius to see that Roberts is most dangerous when he has space to wind up and pick a man to run at... or over. Expect to see the Wallabies rushing up in a line, choking the Welsh backline.

Bit harsh on Saia, but at this stage I agree. Nathan Charles would be my bet for a player to take his place: now there's a guy who's run over a few people in his time.

Damn, I was really hoping we'd see Les Murray and Craig Foster doing the presentation with Phil Liggett doing the commentary. Lee Lin Chin as the sideline commentator? Might distract the players though...
