    NSW Invitational U16 Tournament 2014

Surprised at some of the controversy... Although not shocked! Without knowing any of the inner machinations I will say that Bailey Simmonsen (playing in 13 but named at 12 in the program) was the stand out player in Sunday's game, despite spending 10 in the bin.

Huge result for Waverley - good on them. Trinity lost Barkley-Brown during the warm up (up the tunnel with ice strapped to hamstring), had a player sin-binned for a pretty innocuous tackle and lost Corias (ribs?) and Rasch and Wayland in the first half, the last two following a head clash. I...

Cranbrook and Barker looks to be the only game that has potential to spark much interest. Cranbrook are obviously red hot favourites, but Barker have been building into the season and Cranbrook need to maintain the rage after a big win over Knox and then the break.

Is Spira injured? If not, there seems no point playing trials, because he was the best player on the field for either side I thought, with a high work rate, good meters on a wet day and he showed a good turn of pace for his try. Wayland has scored 3 or 4 tries in the 1st XV this year playing...

Was Spira in 6 for South?

Ducked out to Cranbrook, found a “close” park within 1.5km of the ground and saw North v South today, with South getting up 27-22. On a soggy pitch with drenching rain for most of the game it wasn’t ideal conditions for a trial. Even so, the boys played fairly well, with defence being the...

Piglet Very good question regarding the coaching. The issue with Cranbrook's 1st half kicking on the weekend was that they regularly kicked away possession when in Trinity's half, or close to Trinity's half, and often ended up with a contested line out around the same place, or further back...

Cranbrook won't find anything remotely disappointing in the thumping they gave Trinity. I wrote a report for the blog here - http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/cas-round-4-two-schools-heading-for-showdown/ Yes, there was too much kicking in the first half, especially from mid-field, and they'll...

Cranbrook up 31-8 at half time, after taking a 31 nil lead. If Renton wasn't kicking away possession non-stop they'd have 50 by now.

Next week's clash between Knox and Cranbrook is shaping up to be a delicious one. Can Cranbrook stop the Knox juggernaut in 2014?

Trinity had a good try to Wayland disallowed as held up, despite a clean grounding. But it won't affect the outcome. Knox are scoring a try every time they enter Trinity's half and, but for some lacklustre kicking, would be even further in front.

Quite right Kazoom... I've edited... those yellow and blue Catholic schools are so easily confused!

I thought Danton was Aloy's best player last round. He went off with what looked like a possible concussion towards the end, but won plenty of ball against a bigger pack and had a great work rate.

Wayland is a loose forward, Rasch is a second rower and Morris is an outside back. I'm fairly certain that all of Wayland, Morris and Longville are year 10 boys, so we'll likely see a bit of them over the next 3 years.

For Trinity the fourth is Ryan Longville, who played wing in round 1 and inside centre in round 2 and is the goal kicker.

Tough to pick after just two games, but we should know a great deal more about how the competition is shaping up by Saturday evening. My prediction is that by that time Knox and Cranbrook will be the only undefeated teams in the comp. Trinity v Knox In two rounds Knox have continued to build...

    CAS Rugby 2014

I've only seen the Trinity, Waverley and Aloys boys go around so far, so am not remotely in a position to suggest who should hold the final positions, but from what I've seen, contenders from those sides whose names ought to at least be short-listed for CAS rep honours should include: 1...

I was on the other side, so couldn't hear what was happening. Looked like a boil up, ref sorted it out with a long talking two. 30 seconds after play restarted the Waverley 14 ran in from about 20m away to push a player after play had stopped. Ref had another chat. Looks like it was well handled...
