Canberra Vikings - Offical NRC Team Thread

I get that that's the company line, but how come the Force and Rebels can afford it and the Brumbies can't?

    Reds 2015

Not that this ideal, but it wouldn't be outside of scope for AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), McCabe and Horne (all often on the Wallaby wings) to come into 13 defensively on occasion. All hypothetically of course.

Canberra Vikings - Offical NRC Team Thread

Wouldn't be the worst idea. The eagles have assembled a nice squad this year but I picture them as fluctuating the most of the sides.

Brisbane City vs. Sydney Stars - NRC Round 1, 21/08 @ Ballymore

What happened to the rest of the Sydney Uni players? I think it's Sydney Uni 1sts, plus some Super Rugby players and Balmain players who could be playing higher (like the one who has an ITM Cup cap for Waikato). Obviously some fridge 1st graders, who have played 2nds come in to cover spots...

Brisbane City vs. Sydney Stars - NRC Round 1, 21/08 @ Ballymore

I felt that the lineouts were pretty prevalent. 15 thrown a piece is about right. Once teams get more diligent about getting back 10m and setting a great D line then people will quick tap less too.

    S18 on its way

Maybe the best option is a Japanese based team that plays 2 or 3 home games a year in Singapore to ease travel for the Saffas and expand the market?

Lock them down contractually I guess. Though it seems those contracts are easier to break than they should be.

Brisbane City vs. Sydney Stars - NRC Round 1, 21/08 @ Ballymore

Makes you wonder wtf Uni are doing with this mess, selecting 80% of their squad from the 3rd place Shute Shield club. They don't need to change their NRC model of course, but maybe they do need to invite more external players in (which they easily can within the model). It's early days though so...

    National Rugby Championship 2014

Wholeheartedly agree but it's also worth noting first round of the ITM is always similar in terms of open rugby, then teams get more clinical. When you combine good players with a short prep, anything can happen.

    Melbourne Rising 2014

Ah-nau needs more decent rugger as he's developing nicely. It's a shame but Saaga is being blooded at as a LH.

    National Rugby Championship 2014

I think the argument is Colts-aged V actual Colts. Nothing wrong with Colts-aged players being there, happens in NZ too.

Brisbane City vs. Sydney Stars - NRC Round 1, 21/08 @ Ballymore

Sexier, shinier jerseys and branding in a major part. To us we raise an eyebrow, to them it's just awesome. It's part of the reason the NRL appeals to them I think. The poorer D helps too, but you see that at the start of the ITM Cup too while players get used to it all.

    National Rugby Championship 2014

I thought I would but I didn't. The yellows were just different enough with the shorts and socks being the deciding factor. It's a bad branding decision more than an issue for broadcasters and refs but we'll see how the other yellows go together.

    S18 on its way

I don't mind Singapore existing TBH, as long as we call a spade a spade and realise it'll basically be a place for a developing Pacific Islander to go before he gets his first big French contract. Run it cheap, run it exciting, and sign all those ITM Cup players who are flashy but miss Super...

    Reds 2015

He plays like a young Nonu but he's less of a dickhead. I don't mind 2014 Nonu's temperament but at the same age he was a tosser. Samu's speech about God after the match isn't my cup of tea but at least it shows he's a humble man with his head is a good space. Good on him. Being an explosive...

    Rebels 2015

Given our Uni connections I think James Dargaville and Jim Stewart are worth a talking to after last night. Stewart is probably on Tahs lockdown given how well and quickly he's progressing (and rightfully so), but this Dargaville kid off of last night and what I've seen of the Shute Shield...

Brisbane City vs. Sydney Stars - NRC Round 1, 21/08 @ Ballymore

On average that's doable presuming finals boost the average and Sydney/Brisbane derbies get good crowds too. If he continues in this rich form (and it's an if, which I said), I don't see why not. He certainly fills the utility 23 jersey role better than Kuridrani or Lelo (not saying he's as...

    Brumbies 2015

Re: mst's video of the lock. WTF! Firstly the commentator saying there was "definitely a bite" is insane because there's no evidence of it. Secondly, the opposition player didn't lash out making me wonder if he was even sure. Thirdly, I've never seen foul play take place by the try scorer as he...

Brisbane City vs. Sydney Stars - NRC Round 1, 21/08 @ Ballymore

On another note, how good was Kerevi? A few more games like that and you'd take him on the Spring tour. The Kiwis and Saffas pick the best couple of ITM Cup players at the end of every season, I don't see why we can't follow suit.
