I see what you mean, but it's also -- short of a RWC -- the rugby event most likely to draw the interest and eyeballs of casual fans. Purists know why it matters, casual fans (i.e. exactly the people who need to be brought into the tent) get caught up in the hoopla, the hype and, hopefully, some...

Law question - TPN's tackling technique

They're legal, but maybe shouldn't be.

Law question - TPN's tackling technique

Does TPN have good tackling technique? No. Would it be good if it was better? Yes, mostly for TPN so he didn't knock himself out so often. Has anyone suffered a serious injury from being tackled by TPN in this manner? No. Has TPN played at the highest levels of rugby for five years? Yes. Has he...

Brumbies vs Waratahs Super Rugby-R4 2013

I tipped the Tahs on SuperBru. It puts me in a tiny minority, but I'm willing to risk it for the added jubilation of being in Canberra when we geld these Brumbies. :D

    Sharpie.

I wouldn't watch it because I don't have Foxtel, but it would certainly weaken my resolve about not subscribing.

Who's that Smith bloke on the bench? Is he from the EPS?

Agreed. Even though he's not an incumbent, MMM kinda makes my point. He's got 20-odd caps already, played in a RWC, etc.

You could hand out actual knives and batons at a Tahs game and it still wouldn't get anyone out of their seats.

I think it'll be tougher than usual to dislodge anyone with test experience for the Lions tour. Obviously the team shouldn't be too conservative, but it's the most important rugby event in Australia since 2003 and the pressure on players, coaches and administrators will be intense. I could...

Dunno. Benn's got a pretty awesome pass from the base of the ruck. Bet he could throw lineouts rather nicely.

Agree with all this. For better or worse, this Tahs team is -- at least for the moment -- a scoring side, not a defensive one. Might as well go all in.

    What makes you say that?

    Waratahs 2014

Fp, I'm inclined to agree with you on most of that. It'd be a shame to see Mitchell go, but I think you're right, fp. Only if he regained full fitness and was close to starting for the Wallabies would there be much reason for him to stick around. Yen-and-euro time. That said, I think...

    Waratahs 2014

Yep, and this is a big reason I find the "stick him in Shute" argument so silly. Why would he come back if he spends half the season out of the side? Playing him this year is partly about trying to get him to sign again in the future.

    Waratahs 2013

As long as turnovers drop due to better execution not less initiative, the Tahs should see a marked improvement o et the season.

I thought Deans should have got the axe after the RWC, but last season also had a huge injury toll that had him making all sorts of desperation selections. Certainly I agree there was too much shifting players around, but 2012 was a difficult year due to other circumstances as well.

Totally agree, Lindo. I'm still just gently trying to get Slim riled up. Hard to tell if it's working. I wish Pat McCabe was playing, then we could have some real fun.

Does anyone seriously think that Mogg will get picked to start at 15 for the Lions series? Even if he's the form Super Rugby 15, he will be passed over for someone with significant test experience. I'm guessing the all-fit-and-firing pecking order for 15 goes: Beale, JOC (James O'Connor), Barnes, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Mogg. And Schmoo...

    Wallabies Watch

And a lot of people think he should get a run at 13! JOC (James O'Connor) is rapidly becoming a very complete player. He's an increasingly strong defender, as evidenced by his play at the RWC. He's an excellent goal kicker, dynamic with the ball, dangerous on counter-attack. If he has a weakness, it might be a...
