Some good solid wins with some visible structure in attack and defence is what I'm looking for. I said it last year, but those poor lads during the RWC didn't even look like they knew where to stand in general play. It was so obvious that they had no clue what they were supposed to be doing and...

I'm not a fan of the football league style setup to be honest, for all the reasons Dru points out.

Fuck, losing Gordon is grim. He's the 10 with the highest ceiling IMHO, but that's life. However, I don't blame a bloke for finding a new job when his employer has gone bust and he's just been laid off.

100% Fundamentals should be non-negotiable. If a hooker can't throw, a prop can't scrum, a lock can't catch, a halfback can't pass etc etc then they really shouldn't be considered for selection. Test footy exposes shortcomings in these areas ruthlessly.

That's an excellent question and not one I have a ready answer to. My guess is that plenty of our PI players (either through birth or heritage) would be in that category.

If we were to go to a domestic comp only I think we'd also have to accept going open slather with Wallaby selections. We can talk about the A-League and the NBL but the national sides attached to those two sports have open selection, We would be utterly shit in both were it not for the players...

I was wondering if anyone was going to link to that post from Bidwell. It's all very well to say "our system worked really well by ourselves for 100 years", but that was during the amateur years when there wasn't the same global market for players. What Hamish seems to conveniently forget is...

Only Ireland is in the same situation as us though, with four winter codes. Rugby league is a non-entity in France, Italy, Wales and Scotland and not a massive thing in England any more. None of this means we shouldn't be doing better, however.

Ah right, nothing useful then. So why are you here commenting if it's all so fucked? Is it some kind of masochism?

Oh well, better just fold up the card table shut the sport down then eh?

I wouldn't be opposed to that at all

I would like to see a two round comp, as it lengthens the season and provides more footy. We often complain about not having enough product to sell, this would be a solution.

Quarter Final: Brumbies v Highlanders Sat 8th 7.35PM @ GIO STADIUM

That's a very good Brumbies side

    Chiefs v Reds 7/6 QF

That's not a bad side at all
