oddly enough mxxy I am pretty sure in England oztag or tag rugby is counted in rugby union participation numbers not leagues.

As for wrestling being all upper body in league - if they went lower body the guy falls over, the tackle finishes. The defence has two aims, firstly to make the tackle (ie stop a try) and secondly slow it down as much as they can so they will be on the front foot for the next play. Its not...

mxy obviously when I making an opinion I am speaking for myself and not the human race. But I appreciate you amending the post the black and red give it a nice look, very rocknroll.

I don't think you need to reduce the numbers in tackles in league for stripping to be introduced, if you run one man into 3/4 you deserve to be a chance of losing the ball. Also if you are one man who has drawn three to four defenders pass the bloody ball to where the space is.

my quoting function doesn't work on this computer so to respond to your little state of the nation effort up there with any sort of clarity is difficult. It probably would be difficult to get any sort of clarity from me regardless :p. mxy - I played a fair bit of rugby back in the day and I...

putting re-unification aside, I would actively support league bringing back the stripping rule. IMO this would make teams either shut up shop, and therefore have to be very very good defensively to eek out wins, or it makes teams play faster and encourages sides to shift the ball. Because if...

There was a contest for the ball in league when they had unlimited though I am relatively young I believe it was because st George changed there tactics to take no risks to maintain possession and just try and grind wins out to keep the game entertaining league bought in limited tackles. Same...

as for the SMH article. The wallabies are free to purchase any kiwis / kangaroos they have the money to spend on. Purchase a backline of Cam Smith 9 Thurston/Johnson/foran/cronk (10) Inglis IC Hayne (I know rugby isn't the NFL but he might be back) OC Pick a winger from the morris brothers...

I fully appreciate that I am not preaching to the choir. It was just in response to a few replies which appeared to suggest , instead of using league as the starting point for a reunified code you should use union. So I used union to show what would need to be done imo, and hopefully highlight...

contested scrums are a laugh. Died in the wool rugby fans like them because its now a point of difference to every other game. If you want big fat blokes missing more tackles just restrict the amount of substitutes more, the heavier the load the more energy used in carrying it, simple...

i agree it wont happen. but it is a nice thought, if someone powerful enough could put it together.

Keeping in mind the reason for the codes splitting effectively died when union admitted they were wrong and a tad late by going professional.

Back on re-unification, if it did happen rugby could be a force in global sport. It would easily be the most dominant sport in the southern hemisphere - NFL style and could use that to springboard it to recognition throughout the rest of the world. The problem is, both codes would die before...

I am surprised that you guys defend the union blokes who saddled up with the Nazis to confiscate all of leagues assets. Just because league survived doesn't mean it didn't effect them. And lol at comparing rugby league continuing to play whilst rugby union stopped playing to a rugby union...

Rugby League players who could have/could make the switch

I just don't think the shit talk that comes from a player leaving your code out does what they do on the field. From a rugby league perspective, I think its great that the NRL is pumping out big name players that various rich rugby unions want. If they couldn't produce those players that would...

Rugby League players who could have/could make the switch

If you are concerned about a league player talking down union when they leave, then the problem isn't the recruiting the league player the problem is either 1 - the right league player and 2 - the reasons they are talking down the code. I think both codes should be trying to be as strong as...

pfitzy you start comparing league to AFL. Tahdan comments on that comparison, you don't like where hes going so the thread is "about league" all of a sudden. A bit rich.. maaaaate. Your hatred towards rugby league is hardly going to endear the rugby league media to your cause. For the...

Rugby League players who could have/could make the switch

I wonder if its because of that Farrell bloke who played league and is now involved in union in England. English union seems huge on getting league players. Atleast compared to Australia, who probably could get more out of it. I am surprised they don't go for graham who is in my opinion the...
