    Force v. Brumbies - R3 2014

Every time Sharpe ups the intelligence, Marto has to bring things crashing back down.

    Waratahs vs Reds - R3 2014

Some excellent comments by others that I won't repeat -- especially Ash. For mine, the Tahs remind me of the Chiefs' approach in recent years. Attack the line, take risks, play at pace and recognize that Super Rugby is about scoring tries. This style works as long as the breakdown work is accurate and...

Waratahs vs Force - Super Rugby R2 Sunday 23 February 2014

I was at the Sharks-Bulls game in Round 1 and the skills on display were inferior to what the Tahs put together on Saturday. While good overall, the Sharks made a lot of errors and gave away a lot of foolish penalties. But you could see the quality of the team when things clicked. Same with the...

Waratahs vs Force - Super Rugby R2 Sunday 23 February 2014

All sports competitions are heavily unbalanced. It's unfortunate, but a reality. Teams with the deck stacked against them need to be both different and daring.

Waratahs vs Force - Super Rugby R2 Sunday 23 February 2014

I have to say, reading this thread after being at the game was bizarre. You'd think the Waratahs had a whistle and still couldn't score. Bloody good start to the season. Folks can nitpick as much as they want, but putting on 6 tries in the first match is terrific. Especially with lots of work...

Waratahs vs Force - Super Rugby R2 Sunday 23 February 2014

The Tahs website has one. http://www.waratahs.com.au/Waratahs/MatchDay/2014NSWWaratahsDraw.aspx

    Waratahs 2014

Ah, right, missed that. Thought you were talking about players invited to Tahs training. Seems like a good lad to watch closely.

    Waratahs 2014

Salient, given the aforementioned absence of a left-foot kicker in the squad.

Trial: Waratahs v Highlanders, Hunter Stadium, Newcastle, 14 Feb, Fri, 7:30 PM (EST)

I'm surprised to see so many front line players starting. Surely the bench will see the majority of playing time in most positions.

I have similar fears. "Oh my God, he's beautiful!" was the way my wife put it.

    Waratahs 2014

I think we're pretty deep there, especially with versatile guys like Beale and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) in the squad. It's hooker and lock that have me a little nervous, Lindo.

    Adongo to make NFL debut

@USARugger I've never seen him play rugby, so I don't know much about his quickness, etc. He certainly seems to have real potential -- having guys like Mathis say such specific things in praise is a good sign too.

    Adongo to make NFL debut

Some rather uninformed comment on this thread, which is fair enough since this is a rugby forum. :) Adongo is projected to play linebacker, a defensive position, and will most likely ended up as a pass-rusher, given his frame and strength. That means his job will largely be to fight through...

    Waratahs 2014

Interesting idea and worth a crack. We're rather thin at 13, so even if he's third-string behind AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and Horne, that'd be a nice thing to know was going to work.

    Spring Tour Improvements

I don't think the Timani / Skelton comparison really holds that much water, except that they are both very big units. Watching Timani's games with the Tahs three years ago was frustrating. He dropped the ball all the time, didn't jump in line-outs, and seemed to only really be effective at the...

    Wales v Wallabies, Cardiff, Nov 30 2013

I thought it was a stellar performance, especially at the end of a long, emotional and uneven season. Link has this team going in the right direction. Talent and hard graft were on display this morning. It was great to see some of the more criticized players have some very good games in recent...

Cricket is indeed a limited analogy. Similarly extensive travel is built into our provincial rugby competition -- it's tough, but I don't think it's disastrous. As far as I know, the Kiwis deal with same schedule. And don't the June visiting sides also arrive the week before? I think this is a...
