Howard did not play a single minute I can recall at 8 all season.

Fair enough - BBC's injuries to really key players over the last several years just seem to bad to be true - which always make one look for a reason, even though there most likely isn't one. All schools have injuries and players that miss games, but BBC seems to lose their key players at key...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2017

Harry Wilson captained the 1st X1 and played Qld Schoolboys cricket -- additionally (in a sample of 1) at GT 1st XV players who also played 1st X1 missed no games through injury. Perhaps all tight 5 aspirants should play cricket ;-) BAG

Well said and a well argued point – just a few clarifications and comments from me. 1) I have absolutely no connection to the GT rugby brains trust 2) all comments here are opinions and observations biased by the fact I watch predominantly GT games. 3) I rate Howard highly and am surprised he...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2017

But but but, from what I read here GT has broken the record for the most new recruits in a single year ;-) (Never mind the fact at least 3 schools have more recruits in single age groups than GT has in the whole school) So by my GAG count GT should win every age group comfortably, surely a man...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2017

I am planning on it, but there are so many new boys and departures this off season I am really struggling to put together a clear picture on any age group. Hopefully I'll make it out to a a lot of the trails and get a feel - somehow I think there are going to be a lot of surprises this season...

What position you thinking?? GT has their 13, 14 (4 games) and 15 returning,, a current Qld 7's rep in grade 12 who plays 12 or 13 mainly 13, a 2015 Qld u15 10 (played 15 in 16'A last year) and 2 very good representive centres in the 2017 16's already. Now don't read this wrong I am a big fan...

Lets look at the facts here u13 4 boys 1 at GT since grade 5 of no obvious ethnicity 1 boy from a traditional feeder school of no obvious ethnicity, 2 boys who fit your stereotype one of whose older brother has been at he school for a few years. u14 4 boys 1 at GT for 3 years no obvious...

Very nice - didn't get to see much of him this season - looked like he had a good one.

    QLD GPS Rugby 2017

Not to mention the opportunity to rise to the occasion and fight for their place in the 'A' team - much harder when they bring a boy into your position for 1 year in grade 12. There were quite a few 'new' boys at GT (and BBC too I think) in the 13's and 12's that found themselves in the B's...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2017

That is the age group I was referring too - should be a good comp in the 12's the 11's saw some really good games this year.

    QLD GPS Rugby 2017

I think the private schools should be offering 'educational opportunities' to kids with talents that compliment the schools culture whether that be rugby, swimming, debating, chess, music or whatever. Bringing kids in up until grade 10 is a good thing for all concerned IMO - after that, it is...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2017

I too have heard (from the horses mouth)- that BBC and BGS are chasing a group of U12 league players in a packaged deal for 2017. As recruitment gets younger the risks get much bigger!! Got to love seeing all this new talent make its way onto the GPS sporting fields every Saturday throughout...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2017

This is a very good point and one I had not really considered before - for most GPS schools the impact on bringing in sporting talent has no bearing on the available spots for 'non elite' students and as stated actually brings in $$ for the schools through government contributions per students...

    Growing QLD Schoolboy Rugby

More importantly can they afford not too - time to stop looking at everyone else ARU and step up to the plate and deliver grass roots support and real development pathways that support the GREAT work being done by the schools in fostering junior rugby.

    Growing QLD Schoolboy Rugby

One might also argue the only thing not currently broken in Rugby in Australia is the Private Schools competitions - at least in Qld it has (arguably) never been as competitive and popular as it is now. Why would/should they even entertain the notion of changing it?
