RWC QF 4 AUS v SCO (Twickenham) 19th Oct 0200 AEDT

Was this the law that was apocryphally changed to prevent the practice attributed to Dally Messenger of throwing the ball over the heads of defenders, running past and catching it on the other side? Probably a question for Lee Grant or Bruce Ross?

RWC 2015 Semi Final 2 - Australia v Argentina Twickenham, Monday 19 October, 2:45 AEDT

That young back rower looks like he's done it before - shoulders square, head up, power coming through both legs. Hooper could learn a thing or two.

RWC 2015 Semi Final 2 - Australia v Argentina Twickenham, Monday 19 October, 2:45 AEDT

Apologies if I missed the discussion on this, but I am not sure if I agree that there were no Australian players, Highlander. Kepu made the tackle and was pinned at the bottom of the ruck the whole time. See If a ruck was formed Horne clearly could not play the ball from in front of the...

RWC QF 4 AUS v SCO (Twickenham) 19th Oct 0200 AEDT

Given the ref invective I am reluctant to bring this up - but anyone know why Horne's try was allowed. If he was not part of the ruck he was an absolute mile offside. If he was part of the ruck, I don't understand how he could have picked the ball up. Anyone know?

RWC QF 4 AUS v SCO (Twickenham) 19th Oct 0200 AEDT

Let me preface this by saying that no one one is bigger critic of Joubert than me - he should not be reffing international rugby, as evidenced by his card of Maitland. That said, looking at that closely (nothing more sophisticated than pressing play and pause as quickly as I can) that looks to...

RWC QF 4 AUS v SCO (Twickenham) 19th Oct 0200 AEDT

Unfortunately whether you even knew the ball had come forward off your player is not relevant. All that matters is whether or not you can avoid being touched by the ball. If you can avoid the ball, but don't it is a penalty. It might not seem fair, but its the law.

RWC QF 4 AUS v SCO (Twickenham) 19th Oct 0200 AEDT

Touching Phipps isn't enough - it has to be ruled that Phipps deliberately played it. If it just came off him the offside players are not put onside. Law 11. Whether Phipps deliberately played it is the question.

I was talking about Horne's try - that was a contender for worst decision. maitland's card may well have topped it though....

Best thing about that half may be it is the second last half we see Joubert ref this WC

RWC QF 3 IRE v ARG (Millenium Stadium) 18th Oct 2300 AEDT

My son plays under 11s in Dublin. One thing that strikes me is how heavily teams focus on blitz defence at a young age. It is very effective because kids that age can't execute skills under pressure and so an effective blitz will go along way towards winning the game - but it hampers skills...

Great also to see games being won in that style. Rugby is the greatest game of all when it rewards ambition and bravery rather than cynicism. Love that the WC is seeing games won the way NZ did last night and the Pumas did today.

Argentina superb. Great to see at team wanting to play rugby and reap the rewards

That penalty against Sanchez was rough - Murray has form for passing the ball at opposition players coming back on side - he got a warning for it against Italy

It is in this world cup - unless you are Michael Hopper

RWC QF 4 AUS v SCO (Twickenham) 19th Oct 0200 AEDT

I have to say I thought what happened was two guys trying to lift and roll the same guy from different directions. Both of them doing something that was a textbook clean out that all teams do every day of the week - but desperately unlucky it happened simultaneously. I am glad the Scots appealed...

Good decision. Anyone can go down at any stage and giving Quade another 20 minutes of game time at 10 could be invaluable if he is called on at a later stage. Much safer subbing in a winger that hasn't played for a few weeks.

RWC: IRE v FRA (POOL D) Mon 12th@2:45am

Looks like Seanie did get cited. I just looked at a frame by frame and unless he has no fingers it unfortunately doesn't look much like an open palm to me? Bosch also cited for a tackle it seems.

RWC: IRE v FRA (POOL D) Mon 12th@2:45am

Jeez that is some cost - looks like its all over for Paulie and O'Mahony. Can't see O'Brien pulling on a jersey again for a few weeks. Any news on Sexton?

RWC: AUS v WAL (Twickenham): POOL A; 2:45am (AEDT) Sunday 11 October

Drew Mitchell also did very very well. By far the most incisive runner during the period he was on the field. Given how effective the wallabies defence has been compared to their attack we might need him more than Horne.
