Agree Waterboyrugby. Scrums & lineouts have been relatively strong, but there is plenty of room for improvement in the other aspects of forward play. You're post above is on the mark - at super rugby the set peice is not the be all and end all. Having a well rounded attack with both intent to...

    Reds 2017

Yeah - but in terms of depth, is there a lot of difference to the majority of this year - Tui, Gill, Shatz & Browning backed by Korczyk, Fakaosilea & Gunn. Ideally Korczyk or Timu would have got more experience this year, but on the whole backrow depth is better than THP. Plus, aren't we still...

It's also about who replaces them. Browning has been replaced by Houston & Timu. Fainga'a replaced by Moore. Gill by Smith. The biggest concern is Holmes. A lot will depend on Talakai & Tupou both staying fit and kicking on next year.

I don't read it like that. Byrnes has, to my understanding, no designs to be a full time HC. But he is open and willing to assist on skills development and has a proven track record - arguably the best in the world. Coaches want to sorround themselves by good people. I'm sure coaches, like all...

And hasn't Mick Byrnes indicated he would willingly work with the Australian sides. Seems a no brained to me.

Unfortunately Sully - I 100% agree with you.

Reds vs Chiefs, Fri 8th July, Suncorp Stadium

Amongst all the gloom - I actually though Paia'aua was one of the brighter spots. Not perfect by any means, but at least tried to challenge the line. His work in cover defence was especially good - but he was the kid with his finger in the dyke.

I'm loathe to be overly critical of the players. That was a very inexperienced side and I thought they really needed some hard heads. But I cant really see how either Stiles or O'Conner can be in the running for next year. Across the board there are too many different coaching issues - we need...

No - these guys are now professional coaches. They will have all been through this process numerous times. They'll (rightly) be expected to detail their plans to take the Reds forward including details of strategy & support networks and convince the panel they have the right vision and are able...

Even easier - ask him the question 'We notice that Jake McIntyre stands too deep and runs sideways. Why haven't you fixed this?' Jokes aside, I don't see any problem with the panel using his current coaching performance against him, regardless of how he interviews. He and Stiles both have...

Brumbies vs Reds, Friday 1st of July, GIO Stadium Canberra

Yeah - I agree with the Brumbies guys on most of these - although I did actually think Gill clearly tried to use his arm initially and, for mine, it was quite clear that he did. But then others quite clearly thought he didn't - just goes to show we can look at the same thing and see it...

Brumbies vs Reds, Friday 1st of July, GIO Stadium Canberra

Hmmm - would love to see the young blokes come out and make a statement, but I really can't see it happening. Brumbies should win in a canter. Would love to be wrong, though.

Wallabies vs England, Sydney, 3rd Test, 25 June @ 8:00pm

Yeah, agree - but then as Cheika himself has pointed out, that can't be an excuse. Every team has things go against them. You have to make your own luck.

Wallabies vs England, Sydney, 3rd Test, 25 June @ 8:00pm

Interesting comment in the press conference by Cheika that the touch judge pushed Moore in the back as he was throwing the lineout on our line where he missed Coleman and England got held up. The touch judge was apparently trying to move the England lineout out of the gap. By the sound of it...

Which seems funny to me. He certainly doesn't come across to me as being rude or disrespectful.

I think there were a couple of quotes the other day from the Reds which suggested that the Valentine Holmes rumours were exactly that.

Maybe (and I'm just playing devils advocate here) that since England have done quite well shutting down one of our strengths, Cheika has decided to try and really throw something different at them. Certainly a few selections here surprise me. I'll be interested how it goes.

Sorry Sully - it is very presumptious of me to tell you what you were thinking. My apologies. My comment on Hooper was more to contrast how he is playing compared to the traditional role of an open side. But you are right, his current role doesn't match a traditional number 8s role either.
