EOYT 2016 - Possibles, probables and general banter

Pretty clear article from Iain Payten in the tele this morning. All FTA networks passed on buying the rights because the home nations and France were asking too much for them. Low ratings because of kickoff time given as a reason. beIN outbid foxsports for the Celtic games and nobody...

EOYT 2016 - Possibles, probables and general banter

From the Department of Communications and the Arts Looking at that it doesn't seem to matter that beIN has the rights - it's the operator (Foxtel) that is bound by the laws. So it would appear that Ten and beIN couldn't come to terms in time - and I wonder when the rights were decided?

    Wallaby Coaching Staff

We probably only get a chance once every 8 to 12 years to make a big splash with the public, when we get a world cup in our timezone. The games in the middle of the night just don't make any sort of impression I reckon 2011 was the real beginning of the end. We have a one off chance in Japan...

    Wallaby Coaching Staff

Eddie used to get in these consultants back in his Wallaby stint too IIRC, but things were a bit more flush in Aussie rugby then

    Wallaby Coaching Staff

I'm guessing you don't ask the "where do you see yourself in 5 yesrs" question at interviews......

    No he didn't say that

They are definately on the anti-siphoning list. What that means in practice, especially when it's foreign companies/unions that are both sellling and obtaining the rights is anyone's guess.

EOYT 2016 - Possibles, probables and general banter

Any indication if we'll be getting any of the other nation's games on any channel?

EOYT 2016 - Possibles, probables and general banter

Had a look and Joe has played just one test match at home since the Lions tour - and only 4 in total. Such a shame, we never got to see what he really had to offer at that level

The Awful Truth About The ARU's Financial Position

Yep - both are outside - the window is only 3 weekends - only recently confirmed that Wales are getting their full team from the English clubs https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/oct/24/wales-premiership-players-allowed-face-australia-autumn-test

The Awful Truth About The ARU's Financial Position

Don't think we get anything from the test window matches but I think there's some level of revenue sharing negotiated for those games outside of the window and the barbarian game

    Rugby TV Ratings 2016

Reds v tahs did 149k this year, Brumbies tahs 120k. Then AFL and NRL started. Also interesting that premier league games are much more popular on FTA than the A-league even taking into account the increase and simulcast. Probably means there's lots more football fans our there for the domestic...

EOYT 2016 - Possibles, probables and general banter

We have some fast guys going round, and we have some guys on the wing who can tackle, but we don't have too many fast guys who can tackle. With DHP on one wing the other guy has to have a decent defence because he'll most probably be defending in the line. Korobiete is fast, and he can...

    Women's Rugby Union

Reckon they were trying that Chiefs tactic off kickoffs of not engaging so as to not form the ruck and leaving a player in the backline to disrupt things. They probably even cleared it with the ref before the game too - she seemed to be expecting it. Then both ref and player forgot the crucial...

The Awful Truth About The ARU's Financial Position

The Awful Truth About The ARU's Financial Position

Cricket Australia projecting a loss of $68million(!) loss this summer. This year is a down year, and it's covered when India and England tour but just shows how much of a struggle it is out there for sporting administrators.

    The Wallabies Thread

Would be a pretty big spit in the eye of Wasps to have paid and rehabbed Kurtley through his knee injury only to lose him once he is fit again.

    JOHN EALES MEDAL 2016

New Zealand v Wallabies, Eden Park, Sat 22nd October

Izzy is once again in (at least) the top 5 of the count for the John Eales medal so his voting team mates at least don't think he's had a particularly poor run of form.
