Springboks vs Wallabies @ Newlands 27/9/2014

No bench play made an impact eg. Cowen, Higgers, Robinson. Some even made a negative impact Beale especially, Horne was poor, Alexander dropping costly ball. It's one thing to make no impact and its another to make a negative contribution. Really disappointed in the bench.

I forgot to mention how bloody good it is too see Fardy back firing. Great game from him.

Yes you are right I can't re-call one either for To'omua I can't see a resonable replacement tho. Goodwin or maybe Lilo. Beale is not an option after that game. I didn't notice Phipps passing to be too bad. I re-call one pass to no-one. I thought he did more good then bad.

First thoughts. What a bloody good game of rugby too watch. I think that was the best 70minutes of rugby we played in a long time. Sorry about the last 10. Slipper, Kepu, Carter, McCalman, Hooper good games. Kuridrani MOTM - He was Mortlock-esque. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) I thought was anonymous until he bagged...

Gee I think your a bit harsh on those players. Phipps I thought did well, To'omua defended well, Hooper defended well, McCalman did loads of dirty work. We had 70minutes of top-shelf rugby, I'd be more critical of other players, mainly the bench. Beale, Higgers, Horne, Cowen.

Despite that lack in judegment, Phipps had a really good game I thought. Ran well, was fast to the breakdwon, passed well, I even saw a well-executed box kick. Great game from him.

We will be critical of the ones being out-muscled. BUT we also need a solution. Realistically we aren't going to be dominate every game at the breakdown, Even if we had the NZ tight 5 you can expect some players to be out of form etc. If the breakdown is getting dominated by the opposition then...

Spot on. and I'm guilty of this. I expect us to come close to beating the All Blacks almost every game but the gap between us and them is further then ever.

No-one can. But we can say we performed poorly in our 50+ loss to the All Blacks. Very poorly. You can argue it's only one game but it was a bloody embarrassing loss.

Plus our expectations are to do better then the previous year. I don't see why that should be an unfair expectation.

Whatever style he plays it certainly isn't the same as what we are use to in Pocock and Hodgson. I think If required to play that style it would require a massive shift in mind-set as he is so accustomed to playing his current style. It's not as simple as just directing him to play the breakdown...

i Agree. I guess the debate should be "Should McKenzie be coaching Hooper to play closer to the rucks and attack rucks more often or should he continue with his current role". IMO it should depend on the opposition and how the game is playing out. One argument I'd like to make it, when we are...

I think his point was. Has Hooper ever played a different way? And the answer is no. He has always played out wide, for 3 different rugby teams he has played the same, whereas Higgers played a loose game for the reds and a tighter game for the Rebels. Is he capable to play a different way? I...

Think you are spot on with Robinson. Also I think his scrummaging was prior to this year was actually poor. I recall a couple of soft penalties and I do re-call him even being dominated by Ben Alexander. Yes that's right Ben Alexander. You know your a poor scrummager when this happens. To be...

How's his distributions skills? If their good enough I think he'd fit the role pretty well but it would still take time to adapt to 12, I think longer then 15. In regards to the wallabies I'd prefer an experienced 12 in a pivot role like 12. A player with only a years experience in the position...
