    Rugby 7s general chat

My understanding is he wouldn't be playing at Kings next year anyway, he'd be a full time Bunny.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Quite possibly yes. I don't see that as a bad thing as long as it's done right. Remember it's only the competition and/or teams at the pro tier they will own, not the Wallabies, and the players are contracted to these teams just like they are now.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Which was no doubt part of the consideration back in 2017. But this time around, if it's not in our best interests to retain the Force, and NZR don't want to participate in that, then we part ways with them.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

RA need to sit down and work out the MOST ACHIEVABLE model that is in the best interests of Australia and try to navigate towards that. It will then come down to negotiation, just like every other commercial situation in the real world. If it can't be negotiated with NZ satisfactorily then...

Are you Wayne Smith? This from this mornings Aus:

    Where to for Super Rugby?

They own or invest in the competition so they sell the broadcast rights, or broadcast it themselves so from subscribers in that instance. There would be other revenue such as sponsors, etc. They have to fund the competition, which involves paying the participating clubs, but the clubs would be...

    Waratahs 2020

Yes I know. I just did a bit more research and it seems that the rationale is that these constraints would make the hiring of these bigger stadia financially unviable. So the venue owners are to negotiate with their relevant state health authorities to come up with a plan. It’s a watch this...

    Waratahs 2020

No, that’s not my understanding. They have capped the attendance for stadia up to 40,000 at 25% capacity. For bigger stadia they haven’t come up with anything yet. My thoughts were that they could cap the attendance at the bigger ones at 10,000 and someone at the press conference asked that...

    Waratahs 2020

They have canned the redevelopment so it can be used, but I doubt the Tahs will use it due to it being >40,000

    Australian Rugby / RA

Agreed. In NSW the Champion zone from NSW Country Championships at least should be given the opportunity to play off against a city club somewhere in there. I assume Qld has a similar country competition? And winner of ACT comp as well.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

How good! Well at least rugby got the jump on NRL and AFL with regards to real crowds and real noise, as opposed to cardboard cutouts and fake noise. Not to mention not taking a fucking knee.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Well Mclennan at least will have pretty solid PE contacts, Magellan may even have a PE fund themselves.

    Australian Rugby / RA

TBH, not really. Only that they both had objectives, just different ones. This is a chairman BTW, Pulver was CEO. It's whoever gets that role that will be crucial. Any of Pulver's objectives went out the window when he signed off on the 18 team Super Rugby comp and proclaimed it as Australian...

    Australian Rugby / RA

Wayne Smith has sat down with Hamish McLennan and these are his five priorities in order: 1) Secure the financial future of Australian rugby. Essentially fixing the pro tier comp and getting a broadcast deal done. 2) investment in grassroots and club rugby 3) creating a meaningful pathway from...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Wayne Smith’s article this morning infers that RAs preference for the pro tier is a TT competition. WS then says that we might need to come back to 3 or 4 teams and makes some unpopular speculation (and its only that) about how that might come about. Ella’s neighbouring article says NZ may...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Yeah not a fan. Don’t be like NRL.

    Reds 2020

Stadia up to 40k can run at 25% capacity. Larger stadia still only able to use corporate and dining facilities, not sure how that works, would make sense just to cap them at 10k. They say they’re working on it. All these guidelines are subject to state rules BTW, you still have to get through...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I think the biggest they will play in is Parra, so more like 7500. I think everyone is starved for sport and with only Aussie derbies being played they will fill that in a heartbeat. The thing that confused me was that someone asked the question about why they couldn't just max out bigger...
