James O'Connor - where will he go?

Ruggo, spot on. I make no apologies for this assessment: it's been an embarrassing and quite ridiculous amount of time since our country won an S14/15, or a BC or a 3N. To fix that, amongst other things, we need at least 2 S15 franchises that are like Manchester Uniteds or the Crusaders (as...

    Brumbies 2012

Agree. FP, my suspicions re Larkham's maturity and objectivity in this new Brumbies' role grew rapidly when he kept issuing statements to the effect that Gits should and would shine again for the Wallabies this RWC year, how great he was playing etc. It was all too gushing, and too soon. My pure...

    Brumbies 2012

Bruce, for me: - you may have noticed elsewhere on this subject I noted that Friend should have been let go (with no forward signalling or gossip out of the Brumbies or its RU) either at the end of the 2010 season, or at the very end of this one, period. That would have allowed Friend a 'I'm...

    Reds v. Crusaders, May 29th, Suncorp - 2011R15

If you look at the very rapid drop down of Tahs' and Brumbies' crowd numbers in recent weeks, and to your reference to the (AFL) Lions above, isn't it now clear that Aus fans simply say: if it's not attractive to watch and the local team's not winning, I'm not paying and taking the trouble...

    Waratahs v Lions - 2011R14

No way BR! I was rather reflecting upon a sense I detected that some Tahs' fans seemed to imply there could be a sliver of doubt about Saturday's Tahs' match.

NZRU Searches for USA Options, Etc.

IMO, a very interesting article re the strategic situation of the SH teams, the possibility of Rugby USA joining SuperRugby, the need the NZRU has for enhanced income growth (as does AusRU), and the fear that NH $ strength could increasingly threaten Aus and NZ player retention...

    Waratahs v Lions - 2011R14

Surely there is absolutely, utterly, unequivocally, irrefutably, no way known to man or beast that the Tahs (with their excellent forwards and just as excellent defence) could ever, ever lose to the 2011 Lions?

    Brumbies 2012

BJ: Agree with you overall - I would be staggered if JW has not formally contracted to have virtually carte blanche wrt all selections and his entire support staff. He would be mad to do otherwise, given the history. As I have noted prior, I congratulate Fagan and the ACTRU Board on this JW...

Reds vs Blues, Suncorp Stadium, 2011R13

Thanks BR, good of you to say that mate. A Blues v Reds Final would be thriller, would it not!

Reds vs Blues, Suncorp Stadium, 2011R13

Many thanks TOCC. Gee, revealing in many ways. Those high-30s peaks, around 5 or more years ago, ouch. Let's hope Reds v Cru can get back up there, doubt it will hit 42k+ though. You can usually get a sense by looking at Ticketek availability the Friday/Saturday before the game.

Reds vs Blues, Suncorp Stadium, 2011R13

TOCC, what is the Aus absolute crowd record anywhere for an S12-S14-S15 game, do we know?

    Rebels v Bulls - 2011R13

Great to see the non-patronising support for the Rebels' path forward from Frans Ludeke: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/rugby-union/bulls-boss-frans-ludeke-tips-rapid-rise-for-melbourne-rebels/story-e6frfgkf-1226056358032 And he's so right - Macqueen and co have done a great job in...

    Wallaby Blindside/Number 8 watch

Excellent picks there TBH (though I am less an Elsom fan and I fear Palu is way below is historical best). But do you think RD will genuinely and ruthlessly pick on recent form this year, or might we see a repeat of the 'my instinctive favourites' of last year, eg, the Mumms, Ma'afus, Browns...

Reds vs Blues, Suncorp Stadium, 2011R13

Thanks Mr T. Isn't it just fantastic! What a turnaround, what an achievement by, all of, the new, revitalised, QRU Board, an excellent professional CEO, a matured, world-class coach, and liberated, well led players whom, with the coach and management, have built a manifestly healthy team...

    Brumbies vs Lions @ Canberra - 2011R13

Thanks Gagger. A counter ruck, if I may: - IMO, the now famous spray was overwhelmingly an attack on the whole player group, and all in public, the references to other parties were way less prominent; - My take upon the Gits references was very different; in fact, there were Rea statements to...

    Brumbies vs Lions @ Canberra - 2011R13

S293: So right. I was disgusted by much of the so-called spray. The macho-men whom think this is 'just deserts for those poor players' are badly misled. Blasting all the younger, non-senior Brumbies players like this was a disgrace. It's none of their fault, and never was. The core fault, the...

    Reds 2011

Though good and even half-good teams seem to have found out how to crack the Stormers' code (or the Stormers are cracking it for themselves?). Once the famous defensive monolith is broken (actually and psychologically), the Stormers' attack capability seems surprisingly brittle.

Reds vs Blues, Suncorp Stadium, 2011R13

Gnostic, agree with your sentiment re Robinson (and its relativity to, say, a Hodgo). I'd add to it: - IMO, too often players here are picked solely on the basis of a kind of in 'in a bottle, standing alone' assessment mode, vs allowing for their emerging, complete skills package in building...

    Cheetahs v Crusaders - 2011R13

In a way MK this result is also highly amusing in that just days back posters here were falling over themselves to declare this year's Cru vintage as near on the second coming in rugby genius and skills.

    Brumbies vs Lions @ Canberra - 2011R13

AC: Very, very similar scenario unfolding to that of QRU/Reds when BB resigned in late 2009, and the prevailing was then that QLD was all but washed up as a force in Australian rugby.
