    2011 Super Rugby Stat Attack!

The facts make Spiro's latest "story" about the Tahs needing to be fast-not-bulked-up to be a piece of total fiction. Or maybe he thinks all the aussie teams have over-bulked. Great piece of work, TOCC

Spiro shows little love for forward play shock

Take out Brown and Hockings and I almost agree with the rest of the post.

QRU - The State of the Union

NFL has to do something while the stoppages are going on, there are just so many of them and they go on forever. It helps the networks slot in the ads.

    Western Force 2011

There's a whole thread about it with some very detailed analysis.

Spiro shows little love for forward play shock

I agree. The quality of Rugby journalism and commentary seems to be inversely proportional to the size of the organisation that provides it. Thank God for G&GR. Spiro's article is particularly poor because he is capable of writing insightful analysis on occasions. Growden's next insightful...

    Andrew Fagan as JON's successor?

Short for "Not In My BackYard". A term used for protest at putting some item of essential, but not very nice, development close to someone's house; thereby reducing real estate values of said house.

Nowra Trials - Tahs v Force and Junior Tahs v Force A

Lee, Topo, WJ, I am getting really concerned about the tone of the match reports. From these, and worryingly also from the You Tube highlights, it looks like we will start the Super comp in good form and possibly are showing the sort of ammunition in the locker that is required to finally...

See Brumbies thread. Extract from an article in the Australian newspaper with direct quotes from Friend.

    Match Officials

Me too. Problem is that its not so much the referees themselves but who is getting appointed where. There is just no sensitivity to the importance of a particular game, nor to a referee's history with particular teams. I'll try to be less negative but they really do make it tough.

He had two full games, too.

    The defence of Matt Giteau

It looked like he slipped because he was caught out of position and tried to readjust too violently and his studs went out from under him. But even better positioned you'd doubt that the same result would not have been achieved. The key to the move is what Beale does at top pace. He runs...

    Match Officials

Paarl, You'd be obsessed too if his record with the Stormers was 15 losses, 1 win. In the first three weeks the Tahs play two of the most important games of the season, at home against the Reds and away against the Crusaders. Those two blockbuster games could decide the Tahs season...

    Waratahs 2011

There is only one team in the Super comp that doesn't carry the same or worse baggage and its across the dutch.

    Waratahs 2011

Posted some similar comments on the Brumbies thread, but its pertinent here too. Alexander is being guaranteed a THP role next year at the Brumbies, which pushes Palmer back to third position behind Ben and Maafu. If the Fuse retires at the end of the year, the Tahs will have no top notch THP...

    Blues Vs Chiefs Pre-season

That's a seriously well thought out and open response by the coach. Most coaches would rather eat Tofu than talk about their team in such an in-depth, open, albeit positive, way.

Nowra Trials - Tahs v Force and Junior Tahs v Force A

Somewhere on the site I read that they were resting him until round 1. Bit like Richie McCaw lite.

Dream on. The wake-up alarm is set for round two.

    Brumbies 2011

Dan Palmer will be shitting bricks. Next year he has to get in front of Alexander and Maafu to win a spot. I'll bet he wishes he went to the Force or stayed at the Tahs now. And if the Fuse retires at the end of this season there's a big opening - he was next in line. Given how little...
