    NRC onwards and upwards

The NRC is cost neutral to for the ARU. And only 5 of 12 Sydney clubs have a financial stake in two of the NSW franchise. Where's this great expense? In terms of growth both crowds (10%) and viewership (23% per game) grew last season. It's starting at a small base but its still growth. Also...

Fulltime domestic Women's Sevens Competition from 2017

Any idea if this will feature anywhere on TV? I also agree with the sentiment from the comments below the article on the home page about to building it into something akin to the College system in the US when it comes to being an event people turn out for. Honestly, I'd be happy if this...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

IIf you want to boost ball in play then adopting all the NRC variations would help. It averaged 50 mins a game last season.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Yes, and the league experienced a drop in viewership in the season just passed. A survey identified the length of the games and lack of actual play being a major issue.

Miami may be in play. Early rumblings and they could be connected to Bordeaux Begles.

Hans Pieter-Wild who is the billionaire backer of German Rugby is rumoured to be in talks to buy Stade Francais.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I think the variations that currently exist in the NRC deliver a very entertaining product as is. Maybe a few minor tweaks but no more than that. Things like a similar shot clock to the one employed in scrums for line outs. Say from the time the ball crosses the sideline you have 30 seconds to...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Hard to find a anything I can disagree with there. The Shute Shield is far too insular. This coming from someone who like you has been a fan of the competition for a very long time and in my case has actually actively played for one of them. If someone could devise a model where we could take...

    No, they aren't.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

The NRC has been relatively well implemented. It doesn't cost the ARU a cent. In fact it made money last season. The quality is improving. Rapidly. It's highly entertaining. And has seen strong growth both in terms of attendance and viewership. That's a pretty successful launch.

2017 TV ratings and crowd figures

Does anyone have any idea of the Shute Shield ratings so far this season?

    Where to for Super Rugby?

The position we find ourselves in today is the result of more than a decade of neglect and stagnation in regards to develooment across all aspects of the game. Probably longer. This all begun well before Pulver arrived on the scene. There's no doubt that he has handled this saga very poorly...

Then keep them. Just a suggestion. Look to then bring in the 2 Countrys.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I still think it's fairly simple. Take our current 5. Have both the Reds and Tahs rebrand to Brisbane and Sydney. Then look to either bring in the Rams or Eagles from NSW and Qld Country or some such from Queensland. There's 7. Add Fiji for 8. You could then play either a two round 14 game H/A...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Apparently the MLR has also recieved strong interest from groups from San Diego, Vancouver, Atlanta, Boston and Miami. They may not be ready for the first season but they appear to be lousy with expansion opportunities when they deemed themselves ready.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Dave, mate. Most newer TV can be connected to the internet no worries. That and there is a decisive shifts in how content is being consumed with more and more people opting for mobile devices as opposed to traditional TVs.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

I agree. But I think what many question is the maturity of the market here and how that will impact upon revenue streams. Personally, among the SANZAAR nations I think the market does exist but others will likely disagree. What I find interesting is that streaming platforms are being looked at...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

If this happens then I reckon we'll see all of the SA franchises move across post 2020. Flight times are similar wothout the need to tranverse multiple timezones which fits much better with the respective TV markets. Hell, they could even play in the The Champions Cup structures. We feature in...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

I'd be targetting 7 and more specifically 7two as they currently have a deal with the SRU to broadcast the SS. That deal requires a $250k spend on behalf of the SRU with 7 in advertising. This is for 18 regular season games plus all the finals from memory. So something like 23 games. If we're...
