Western Sydney Rams . NRC Official Team Thread

They'd lose my support. This does seem like an interesting turn of events. Wonder how long before we get news of say Manly taking control of the Rays licence etc. and so on. Seems very much like the possible beginning of a trend.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Would need to be at least 6 teams playing each other 3 times (the A-League and NBL both do this) imo. Add in Fiji for 7 even.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Oh hell no. If this were to occur then we should absolutely walk from Super Rugby. I would rather see us head down the Soccer route than gut the game further than this already has in this country.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

If or more likely when we go to 4 I'd be all for the centralisation of the administrative side of the pro game. The business simply isn't expansive enough to merit separation at that level. From their I would take all monies saved and invest heavily in promoting the NRC alongsode looking to...

Canberra Vikings - Offical NRC Team Thread

Having one club dominating the talent pool isn't ideal for competition. Hard to argue otherwise. However, I still don't believe something like this should be discouraged. The NRC needs to evolve and grow. To do that it needs clubs/groups with the financial clout to invest resources in order...

Canberra Vikings - Offical NRC Team Thread

Yep. Some will moan about this but the Vikings are willing to put up the cash to compete. The others need to either accept it or find a way to come up with the cash. Which from everything I've seen on this forum is very unlikely.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I think it has a lot more to do with how the NRCclubs market themselves. I know the Rams worked toward building their own identity last eeason which will hopefully continue this year with growing success.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

No. Just a suggestion. If we saw the 5 Super Rugby joined by the Rams and two Country teams then I'd be fine with that. Add Fiji and that'd do me.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I was just using the NRC equivalents. They could keep the Super Rugby names. But if you were to do that it would require some tweaking on behalf of the Tahs and Reds. To Sydney and Brisbane. If you were to go down that route then you'd be better served looking to just elevate the NRC. Which isn't a...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

It would be a bit of a bitter pill for some to swallow but I wouldn't mind it if it were to go down this route. I'd go about it by taking the Spirit, Rising, Rams, Vikings and then opening up spots for any other organisation such as the clubs to fill another 6-8 slots. All bids have to meet...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

They grew by 23% per game last season. So while not stellar at least they are headed in the right direction.

    Shute Shield 2017

I missed the 2nd half. What was the final score?

    Ballymore Redevelopment

If this bid gets up and Ballymore is upgraded what are the chances the Reds would start playing out of there? Personally, I think it would be better that Suncorp which seems cavenous on TV.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Team from both California and the East Coast were approached but were either not in the position to participate or prefer to remain amateur. That said, there is a group based in San Diego who are apparently interested but I don't think we'll see them until 2019. Same for Boston for that matter...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

There's a lot more money and sports business expertise in this organisation than there was in PRO. First of all, in order to participate groups need to buy in to the MLR. Which I have read costs about $250k. Then they have to meet a rather strict set of criteria around financial...

    NRC onwards and upwards

Well said, mate. Should also be noted that the NRC apparently turned a profit this year. I'm not against evolution of the concept. If clubs were keen and able to meet strict financial and competitive criteria I can see space for them replacing a few of the teams in the future to form a hybrid...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

They plan on having 25 full time 'professionals' per team. Not too sure as to how much they will be paid but at least as much as in PRO Rugby which was $25,000 a season. Another 10 places will be 'semi-pro' based on match payments. As for length. The want to wrap it up in time for the June...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Major League Rugby officially set for a spring (USA) 2018 season.

    NRC onwards and upwards

It's not shrinking to greatness. The local club game would still continue. If a club competition developed it would by necessity be a new separate competition beyond the current club competitions. Cluns could still run teams in those competitions as essentially reserve grades. If it ran post...

    NRC onwards and upwards

I've been an avid fan of the Club game for as long as I can remember. I've even had the pleasure of wearing the Randwick jersey on a number of occasions as a young man. It's a really emjoyable level of the game but it doesn't fill the standard gap required in Australian Rugby. The talent is too...
