^^^^ The key thing is to be selected, not where a player is selected. The "best" QLD team combination is often not seen until the Thursday game, and even this will be a compromise due to the inevitable injury or two, or one of the "bench" players showing some good form on the training paddock...

    Sydney Colts - 2015

For the life of me, I can not tip the Beasties this year. If I tip them to lose, they win and vice versa. About the only success I have had was their Bye round! Always one to look for a silver lining, to turn this negative performance into a positive for me, I now know how the Beasties can...

Pic @cdeegan Twitter 5th/6th Playoff - Australia vs Wales Match "Report" from the Twitterverse, courtesy of @cdeegan Korcyk under the posts! Beautiful! Some excellent ball work going on in the backs. Ned is having a blinder 7-0 to Oz. 5-7 Wales go over in the corner after a knock on at the...

    Shute Shield BBQs and Canteens

While the sun is out, it will still be a bit chillsome around the ovals today. Just hope that they have made a double batch of the delicious home made pumpkin soup for the Mighty Two Blues Canteen. Nothing better to warm the up the insides on a cool day.

The ISA fatties did very well yesterday at set piece, although their opposition was poor. Having an all ISA front row starting for the 2nd XV could be an indicator that the sum of the whole is greater then the sum of the individual contributions and the Selectors chose to keep them together...

^^^ It sounds as it the young fellow didn't have much choice in the matter. The Powerbrokers at Souths (and Souths Juniors) are known for their hatred of Heavensgame, and will deliberately go well out of their way to make it difficult for young dual coders to play any rugby at all. Something...

    Sydney Colts - 2015

I suspect there may be a fair bit of weather initiated disruption to the Colts games schedule this weekend with a few more than just the Wicks v Pirates matches moved around.

    Shute Shield 2015

Nailed them all last week including most margins except The Corporation were closer to the chocolates than tipped, and the Hobbits thrashed the Woodies by 1 point. Round 13 Tips Eastern Suburbs v Sydney University. Even with a weakened roster the Corporation came close at Coogee Oval last...

    Sydney Colts - 2015

Last week was my worst round of tipping so far, only getting only two right. Well done to the Beasties who once again performed against my tips. Round 13 Tips Sydney University v Eastern Suburbs. Surely the Beasties won't prove me wrong AGAIN. In the slop that will be the Woollahra back...

    Sydney Colts - 2015

Every university allocates additional ATAR points to elite athletes. There are plenty of students at Sydney Univeristy, even some in the residential colleges, that play rugby for clubs other than Uni, and some of these would have secured their place at Sydney University by applying for...

NSW Schools - Trial Games and Selections 2015

Gets asked every year. Answer doesn't change. The Combined States team is a sweep up of all the lads who deserve a go at Nationals but may be stuck in the queue behind 3 top notch lads in their position in their State but despite not getting a gig for their State squads they could still be...

NSW Schools - Trial Games and Selections 2015

There were 15 players who played in NSW All Schools Trials this year that were at National Championships last year, either in the NSW 1st XV, NSW 2nd XV or Combined States Squads. For simplicity I refer to these as the "Incumbents", and "pencil" these into the draft squads for this year to kick...

I'm thinking WTF are Universities doing having exams on the weekend? @Formerflanker, is there any taxpayer funder advantage granted to Randwick, sponsored by UNSW, or Gordon sponsored by UTS. What about the taxpayer funds that are plowed into the NRC? Nearly all of the NRC teams are...

NSW Schools - Trial Games and Selections 2015

Schoolboy footy is cyclical. ISA have had a fairly purple patch of late, but over time they are consistently inconsistent. In previous years (4+ years back and earlier) when Augies and Oakhill have had champion teams, ISA have really struggled to translate individual school form and dominance...

NSW Schools - Trial Games and Selections 2015

The way the selections work, and by all accounts it appears to be the same this year, they choose 1-15 in NSW 1, 16-38 in NSW 2 and 39-46 in NSW 1. As unfair as it may seem, it is the way that it is and has been for ever, the NSW 1 Bench players are chosen last but get the 1st XV title.

^^^ I thought that the last 3 years AAGPS teams all played a higher standard of rugby than this years AAGPS team did, not by much though. With only one game in the lead up to the final trials day, AAGPS teams are normally going to look like a little under done.

It's a typo. Blaise Barnes had a very good game for AAGPS 2nd XV today.
