Reds vs Bulls Rnd 5 2012.

Is that a sad and lonely place? Let's hope there's no outrageously biased fans there.

    Digby banned for five weeks

There is one thing I have learnt above all else in my time on these boards Ash: there is a vast body of rugby followers whom have convinced themselves or become convinced that the game and its status quo leaders are more or less as good as they could be, and that no management class or group...

    Cipriani going to Sale

I thought the consensus amongst even the most adoring Tahs' fans was that playing 10 was by no means KB (Kurtley Beale)'s finest hour....hence the gradual move outwards and backwards for this gifted player.

Reds vs Bulls Rnd 5 2012.

Scoey - understand your spirit in those words. Just a cold, hard light of day comment: we lost, what, only 3 games last year pre Finals, and our points gap to the next down was not huge pre Finals. This is not a comp any team can afford to lose too many games, especially early on as then the...

    Cipriani going to Sale

Moses, genuine question: out of interest, when do you consider KB (Kurtley Beale) has proven himself as a viable S15 10? Didn't he play 10 in the very last Tahs match of 2011, and, IIRC for most observers, hardly handled that role that day with a natural touch.

    Waratahs 2012

Super point Bruce. I recall an AFL pro once telling me that their kicking coaches worked very hard on training players (all of whom must kick well) when to recognise the emotive signals inside that a kick was going to made without the right forethought and/or just under raw pressure and thus...

Reds vs Bulls Rnd 5 2012.

In a word, no. Agree to disagree.

Reds vs Bulls Rnd 5 2012.

Bb, I think one fact worth recalling is that this is not a Conference of Neutral and Objective Professors of Calm Rugby Analysis Dedicated to Independent Belief, it's an Aussie rugby fan forum. There's nothing wrong with being proud of, for example, Link's obvious achievements, or the Reds'...

    Waratahs 2012

The other key aspect of this mini-debate re kicking is that, overall, the actual standard of Aus S15 kicking from hand on the move is very ordinary. How often do we see supposedly attacking kicks land perfectly into the hands of the oppo 15 or wingers enabling a more than adequate, rapid fire...

    Cipriani going to Sale

An amicable departure for/from Cips is very sensible. He may have had one or two excellent performances for you, but IMO they were the notable exception. His defence in 2011 was truly appalling - and, critically, uncompensated for by consistent impact and skill - and cost you serious points on...

    Digby banned for five weeks

The other genuinely unacceptable consequence of this laughable 'judiciary system' is this: the team that cops the more brutal headmaster's discretion (vs the more amenable headmaster who sees the offence differently), could very possibly have its whole S15 comp prospects negatively prejudiced by...

    Digby banned for five weeks

And in a proper judiciary worthy of the name, there are, as you say, clear rules and sentencing guidelines for dealing with past offences and longevity or expunging periods to apply to the rolled-forward additional penalties for same. As Ash has pointed out, Mr Heron fully complies with my...

    Digby banned for five weeks

Ash, you will know I agree 100% with you, but I would draw your attention to the origin of these instantly-arriving 'defenders of the SANZAR system'. I have the gravest of suspicions that if all this inexplicable and grossly inconsistent 8(5) week banning was around an ineffective...

    Digby banned for five weeks

Just BTW: I am on record as saying Diggers' tackle was utterly reckless (in itself and for the Reds'), and that of course he'd cop some weeks off the grass. Of course he'd plead guilty, it's 100% clear it's a demonstrated offence under the rules, he'd have asked for trouble to show no contrition...

    Digby banned for five weeks

This SANZAR set up is patently not a 'judiciary' in any proper definition of the term; it's more like a local headmasters' disciplinary system across totally different schools where the rules can be varied 'by discretion yet without proper explanation'.

    Digby banned for five weeks

So, 4 X the Cheetahs' 2 weeks for a 'serial offence' that happened 4 years back seems equitable and fair, does it?
  17. RedsHappy

    Digby banned for five weeks

it will be most interesting to know 3 sets of facts regarding these these 2 massively disparate bans for very similar offences (the far longer one for what is clearly the 'less awful' of the 2): (a) precisely where were these two hearings held and (b) what 'judiciary' personnel for each ban...

    Gregan v JON

Brilliant pick up IS. Understand, know precisely what you mean.
  19. RedsHappy

    Digby banned for five weeks

d54, you can clearly see that it's not intentional that Diggers 'comes down on top of player', he just sort of slips backwards a tad and then is out of control of his stance, and then falls forward as he's awkwardly trying also to reduce the severity of the tackled player's fall, no way that...

    Digby banned for five weeks

There's probably 4 volumnious manuals that deal with that, and two international committees to consult, and we'll find out in July.
