    Reds v Brumbies - Super Rugby Round 7 2012

tranq, there are huge cost pressures inside Fairfax and much of the place is a mess of staff departures and fears for more, less so at News. I have seen rugby photo mix ups many a time in the last year or so. It's clear the priority for sports section resourcing is league and AFL.

Did Wallabies' 2011 EOYT hurt Aus Conf 2012 S15?

This is categorically NOT a 'Reds excuse' but I do think, as some have said above, for the elite players that had to play: a full, newly elongated 2011 S15, then the full S15 Finals round, then a shortened 3N, then a full RWC, then, almost straight after that, travel to the UK, train, play two...

    Wallabies 2012

Kiap, agree with IS, by far the best format I've seen for this purpose. Thank you. So much better than seeing the player data in a great long list.

    Reds v Brumbies - Super Rugby Round 7 2012

See The Aus is 'expecting' Lane to be announced as our 10 for Friday. If so, shows the depth of our problems, not the depth of our depth!

Did Wallabies' 2011 EOYT hurt Aus Conf 2012 S15?

This is all speculation, but it does seem worth discussing given we were the only S15 country to conduct late 2011 EOYTs.

Gradual Unfurling of New Wallaby Coaches

Yeah, well said Joe Mac. It's completely arse about. M Foley is really the only contemporary forwards/scrum coach in Australia that has a consistent and distinguished record at that trade. And he decided to leave the Wallaby set-up in late 2008.

Gradual Unfurling of New Wallaby Coaches

    1. It continues to appal me that the ARU deems it right to simply leak key news items re the future of the Wallabies to one 'journalist' only, clearly in return for a symbiotic 'never critique the ARU in any way' trade with him. Just totally wrong, at every level. 2. On another front, we see N...

Honest Assessment of Richard Graham's Coaching Ability

I disagree. It's 100% clear that RG and his coaching group have done much better this year than Link and his with regard to at least two central parameters: forwards intensity and skill, and defence intensity and skill (relative to each other in the latter case). The Reds' coaching group in...

    Reds v Brumbies - Super Rugby Round 7 2012

I agree Braveheart. Not just re the Reds, but the fact is that all Aussie teams do not at this stage have great w-l ratios, there is much volatility and unproven consistency. If this pattern continues, a clear Aus Conference favourite may not emerge until after the June Tests period and we're in...

    Wallabies 2012

Just an aside; if we read the self-announced job description of Totality Tony (McGahan), surely he will be wanting to have a significant role in 2012 Wallaby selections. Given recent history, this might be A Good Thing. Time will tell. Deans' leaking to Growden that he was interested in...

Honest Assessment of Richard Graham's Coaching Ability

What other useful critics are there, but armchair ones? ;)...the rest are insiders who just over-sympathise and make excuses for poor performance....and the Aus rugby mainstream media, their standard of critique is, shall we say, far from world-class  . One of the problems I have...

I thought Tahs' fans might like these quotes from and comments re Luke Burgess in this article (and btw some interesting reflections on the infamous Wallaby loss to Scotland in 2009): http://www.scotsman.com/scotland-on-sunday/scotland/toulouse-have-pedigree-performers-front-to-back-1-2209531

Latest musings from Link and some data re injuries status via link below. (Btw, I personally don't fully buy Link's line re 'struggling with inexperience and combinations' etc. That's passably true re the backs; it's certainly not re the forwards where there has been selection and, generally...

    Wallabies 2012

Pretty good Slim! Maybe Kingston in the mix? Anyway, would it not be like a liberation from the heavens if, say, for the June Tests, we aimed to pick a Wallaby team _strictly_ on recent, proven S15 form (from the the tougher matches, not the easybeat ones). (And I have just seen a pink flying...

    Wallabies 2012

Surely of equal concern is the rather unusual state of our national coaching group as at 2 months before the important June Tests. We have a Head Coach. We _apparently_ have a new defence/forwards/coaching co-ordinator coach in McGahan, but it appears he will not arrive here before early June...

    Reds v Brumbies - Super Rugby Round 7 2012

The jury is in I'm afraid after 6 games. Our Reds have at present a calamitous combination of missing key players, all-skills on a deteriorating trajectory, forwards looking like they're in off-season mode, and obviously low motivation and morale. And, it must be said, coaches that currently...

Reds v. Force Super Rugby Round 6 2012

q51, would you be disposed to agree that there is in this rugby universe of ours, a powerful 'fan' class that might be termed 'the anti-team and anti-fan fan'. That is, for this group, their complete satisfaction in the downfall of a team (and that team's fans) is almost, or is in fact, a...

Honest Assessment of Richard Graham's Coaching Ability

You surely must be just trying to stimulate the fray here. This is like inferring that Rea was really a terrific coach 'cause he beat the Reds at Suncorp last year. The Brumbies played well that night, and the Reds were lazy, it really proved nothing in the end. Now we posit that RG is truly...

Reds v. Force Super Rugby Round 6 2012

You may have a point, whatever, those two conjoined in both 2010 and 2011 were the most beautiful case in football of 2 + 2 = 7. But turning to Genia alone, don't forget how many times in both above years Genia would, for example, snipe brilliantly off the ruck leading to either his own try, or...

Reds v. Force Super Rugby Round 6 2012

Yes tl12. That's 4 out of 22 or more. Perhaps I'd give Van some points, especially given age. Gnostic texted me last night during the game v Force what on reflection haunted me as having a real ring of truth: "Perhaps they achieved all they wanted last year." It's as though many of our...
