Eddie Jones to replace John Kirwan?!?

Maybe not. Jones is no dumb-arse, he's got good analytical ability and likes to set down good structures. It will depend on how that works culturally. Maybe the players will respond to Eddie's style and get the confidence in their game to take their team to the next level. How the coach fits...

    Jim Williams BONED

Maybe as individuals they are lesser than Campese and Horan, but as a collective group they have more natural talent than Jones grand slam team or McQueen's 1999 - 2001 team. Being a Kiwi you probably don't know much about the Randwick teams in the 60's and 70's who regularly won games with...

I was one of them and I don't resile from it. Disco's point about assistants doesn't make sense to me as Deans seems to have been the backs coach all along. I thought our backs skills and running lines were generally poor in 2010, hence my opinion about Graham's lack of success. The poor back...

Things that get up my nose about rugby these days

Essay topic: "Worse still is when some winger is flashing down the sideline and everyone in front stands up so you can't see what's happening. So you stand up too and then some bloke behind you lets fly because he can't see but for some reason doesn't want to stand up. Etiquette says you should...

    Jim Williams BONED

I feel the same way. Following the Waratahs is now more important and interesting for me than following the Wallabies. Coaching a team is all about making the whole team the very best it can be, as the Reds were last year. You wouldn't rate the Wallabies in the top ten if the criterion was...

Shags Hansen - All Black Coach

I reckon the Kiwis will be spewing more than us. Its sacrilege to have an Aussie attached to the All Blacks. There's a joke in there somewhere but I just can't dig it out.

    Rugby Jerseys and Merch Deals

Just looked again at the Kooga site. Only three items left from their 2011 sale, it looks like everything else is gone. This suggests that people are very keen to buy supporters gear but not very keen to pay $150+ for the pleasure. Surely there must be a law of diminishing returns, which...

The Wallabies at the end of 2011

With all due respect to Lee, given the unintelligible nature of Deans' public pronouncements how would anyone know?

Given the history, that is an absolutely awesome number!

    Brumbies 2012

Unless my memory has gone to dreamtime, I think it was Randwick's Shute final win with Michael Cheika as coach that first alerted me to how good Hoiles was going to be. Hoiles was absolutely sensational that day.

Things that get up my nose about rugby these days

Lee, This greatly depended on which team you watched. Watching Randwick play in the mid-70's to mid-80's was never a horrible spectacle unless you supported the opposing team. I agree the rules didn't help much but some teams still held the spirit of running Waratah rugby.

    Waratahs 2012

Just watched the same interview. Yes he doesn't speak in resonant bass-baritone, but you do get a sense of someone who is thinking carefully about the game and does have a plan for what he wants. Right now he'll do me fine. We'll know for sure when he is interviewed after a bad loss - you...

    2012 S15 SA Conference

That jersey is infinitely worse than any Stade Francais offering. I think it will probably make the TV cameras pixelate (if that's the right word?) too. Abomination is just too kind.

In that case lets get rid of Growden and there'll be room for two more!!

    Freakonomics: home-field advantage

Some research in the Super comp that would be really interesting is whether home team advantage is boosted by the noise supporters make. You would think that home ground advantage would be stronger at the Stormers and Reds and weaker at the Waratahs, Cheetahs and Highlanders. You'd need to be...

    Waratahs 2012

This would probably be better posted in the Reds thread, where all the Reds supporters could hit their agree buttons and all would be right with the world.

    Waratahs 2012

I don't mean Horan and Campese great. He's a player who has done the best he can with the skills he was given. I just love his whole-hearted committment and its great to watch him play. If you watch him carefully during a game I think you will conclude he is way better than the critics say...

    Waratahs 2012

Tom Carter is a great player totally under-rated by people who should know better. His biggest problem is that he loves a sledge so much that players in other teams, in Shute especially, end up taking offense. In Shute if they had a vote he would win the "most likely to start a blue" comp by a...

    Brumbies 2012

Does this mean that a squad can be 30 + 5 + 1 foreign marquee? In that case there is also room for one more at the Tahs.

If you're good enough your age doesn't matter. Or should we get rid of Samo and Humphries?
